MW - Carlos Monzon I would like to pick SRR on his best night here, but will pay homage to Monzon's ATG consistency in his natural weight class. Did you read the start of the thread? Your answer is Robinson, not Monzon.
I did for sure. To further elaborate, i am paying homage to Monzon's consistency and the fact that he was a full blown 160 on a head to head basis. Over the course of many matches he might eek SRR out. Might. Today, Monzon has just eeked out Robinson as my choice. Tomorrow - who knows.
I actually forgot about Armstrong at this weight, I had Sanchez, Saddler & Pep in my head & went for Pep. The ULTIMATE clash of styles to end all style clashes with 2 of the best ever p4p fighters.... Pep v Armstrong. The reason I think Pep beats Armstrong is his movement & Henry was probably at his best at 147 were as this was Pep`s natural division. Armstrong woud have a lot of great moments were he just corners Pep & lets go doing fair damage & scoring pts but I truly believe that even the Pep that beat Saddler, in that boxing mood, constant moving, in & out would rack up enough pts to win over 15 rds. I can even see Pep hitting the deck in the later rds but getting up to see out his earlier work. No doubt Henry grows stronger & Pep weaker (tho still strong as he was always greatly conditioned to go 15 as he wasnt used to getting the early KO) in the later rds.... Pep was also very tough & when forced to trade he holds his own here just long enough to slide under, spin around & on is bike again..... Pep would know what he was up against here before the 1st bell & when Pep`s got that boxing head on & has great respect for the opponent, I dont even think Homicide Hank pins him down enough to outpoint him. Great fight tho. WILLIE PEP W15 HENRY ARMSTRONG Close enough for a return but not for huge debate IMO. :thumbsup
