The Allen/Ortiz fight is a complete joke.

Hearn is a joke, and he better be paying Allen a nice purse for feeding him to Ortiz. Why isn't Ortiz fighting the winner of Chisora/Whyte? Does Eddie not want to feed overrated bum ass Whyte to Ortiz?

Well then feed someone better, this isn't safe for Allen, he has a good chin, but no power or skills. I want allen to just lay down and take a dive like Martin, hearn is a scumbag for making this fight.

Ortiz should be fighting Joshua. It's a pay-per-view.
I don't buy any of the excuses for that fight not being made. Apparently something to do with Ortiz holding a minor WBA title, but I heard he dumped that belt.

David Allen should be fight someone like Ian Lewison.

I think the winner of Chisora-Whyte WILL probably be matched with Ortiz.

Hearn is a disgrace with this card. But casuals and AJ fanatics/Hearn apologists will say it's not his fault.

Fight Thompson again then, he fought Ortiz on 2 weeks notice last time, it's a better fight than Allen.

Loads of better fighters in the world than Allen, he's not the best fighter who would accept the fight on 2 or 3 weeks notice.

I hope Allen is getting at least 50k. I mean if Allen's team are encouraging him to take this fight with a mediocre purse he needs to find another team.

It is only an 8 rounder and a card filler to keep Ortiz sharp and introduce him to the UK boxing fans. I would rather Allen than some nondescript Eastern European cab driver with a saggy gut coming to try and run for 8 rounds. At least Allen will provide some durability and hopefully make an attempt to let his hands go at some point.

Yes, unpalatable to some though it is, we would all like to see Joshua - Ortiz now but I can understand the desire to build his profile up before matching them up. At the current time he has almost no profile with the casual market in the UK, so to take the fight on now doesn't make much business sense as follows the old adage of being high risk for minimal reward. It could be a much bigger draw if Hearn manages to get Ortiz looking like a beast on Sky for several fights first which started off appallingly I have to add during that farce of a fight with Scott in Monaco.

Simply, a fight to make Ortiz look good after the Scott debacle. If he stops the iron-chinned (albeit very limited) Allen - which I think he will - 'fast car' can hype Ortiz again after his lame Matchroom debut.

I don't completely buy that argument.
Hearn was happy to make AJ versus Martin, Breazeale and Molina ... 3 fighters who were completely unknown to the British market and fairly obscure to most knowledgeable boxing fans even. Because AJ is such a draw.
It wouldn't be too hard to get the message across that Ortiz is ranked among the top 3 or 4 heavyweights in the world and a step up for AJ.
Of course it might not be quite as lucrative as a successful build-up over months with some more fights, but it can be done.
It wouldn't be "minimal reward" by any means, it would do well.

It's not ideal for Hearn, but this has been far from an ideal year for heavyweight boxing.
Also, the "build up" plan could backfire if Ortiz looks mediocre in one of the intended showcase fights.

I suppose, my point is, Eddie Hearn's just not very interested in giving the fans world-class quality heavyweight boxing on his pay-per-view, despite what he says.

in fairness i dont really rate Ortiz as a top opponent, just durable maybe.

i want to see joshua in with someone extremely durable to see what happens in the later rounds, whether the other guy is good or not just someone that isnt going to get destroyed.

but then again, joshua has walked through opponents known to be quite durable and smashed them apart.

    is he as machine?

Lol, what has Ortiz done. Should have stayed with his old promoters. Now Hearns has trilogys with Sam Sexton lined up, with Gary Cornish, David Price, and even Danny Williams called up to fight over the next 3 years. The deluded old fool King Kong, is being strung a long, he'll be older than the crypt keeper when he gets that Joshua title shot. And he'll have to go through a graveyard of British heavyweights to get there. Ha.

Ortiz was soooooooo poor against Scott that I feel this fight is all he deserves right now... That was the most embarrassing boxing display I have seen since Haye vs Harrison from both fighters.

Allen can be a tricky customer but this should be a walk in the park for Ortiz... Pressure is massively on Ortiz not only to win but to put on a show for the audience

I think this is a decent fight for both... Allen has everything to gain from this and not much to lose other than a broken jaw7

I hope to see a show from Ortiz so he can face Wilder in summer 2017
