It's not the media, it's their style. My dad is a racist old man who raised me on boxing. He was front and center when Cooney was building up to Holmes. He has seen many of the brothers fights, and just can't stomach their styles. He's now an MMA fan.

No, I mean fail to impress against an opportunity with very few redeeming qualities and put on such a terrible, lacklustre performance that Madison Square Garden refuse to show boxing, New York backs away from it and HBO stop showing your fights.

During the hype for the Wlad/Ibragimov fight, a lot of talk were comparisons between Ali/Friazer because of the location of the fight. The media in America gave Wlad every chance and he blew it.

I think that's the only reason. People say "They aren't given a chance" yet both were.

Like I said in another post, heavyweight boxing is different from any other division. There, talent is respected and people want to see good fighters. In the heavyweight division, they want knockouts and brutal fights, something the Klitschko's haven't always offered. Sure, Wlad knocked out Chambers in spectacular fashion but he did it 8 rounds too late. A knockout at the end of a tedious fight isn't what people want to see. They want to see tough, hard hitting men throw leather, get hit back and go to war.

    Solid Post.

You can't keep blowing opportunities and then except the public to patiently wait to see greatness.

If you have a boring style, then you need a very colorful personality otherwise you won't keep anyone entertained.

If you have an exciting style then your fights can sell themselves.

The Klitschko bros were almost pushed down the public's throat by HBO (especially Wlad) but his loss to Sanders and subsequently Brewster not to mention the KD against TOS and the 3 against Peter all happening within a short period of time shattered his marquee. His fight against Ibragimov was his
last chance after that the networks did what they they needed to do.

Vitaly was also promoted hard by the networks. This is a guy who fought Danny Williams, a fighter who Mike Tyson at his advanced age decided to fight in what was supposed to be a farce of a match to keep himself busy. Vitaly was treated well; his decision to pull out of the Rahman fight 3 times was a headache for the networks especially if you pull out shortly before the fight. After he decided to retire, his relationship with the networks were damaged.

Ultimately though it comes down to their styles; Wlad is like the neighbor who bought a Maserati but only does the speed limit. American fans and British Fans I presume want him to step on the gas. Winning is great and it will earn you respect even if it doesn't garner any interest. Holmes did alot of winning in his day but the moment Tyson came on the scene he was loved instantly. Nobody cared that Larry Holmes was no longer champion.

So yes, Wlad/Vitaly can continue winning but until they develop an animated personality (unlikely) or they just step on the gas when they fight the public will continue to greet them with lukewarm reception at best.

Jewish Ross Greenburg hates Eastern Euro's.

Winky and B-HOP are extremly boring to watch but that never stopped HBO from broadcasting there fights.

The Klits just arent Black and or American enough.

American Anti-Klitschko campaign as strong as ever? What the ****? The worst you can say about Americans as a whole about their attitude toward them is that they aren't paying attention, not that they hate the Klitschkos. Even amongst fans we are, at the worst, lukewarm toward them. And in a battle between Haye and Klitschko we are mostly on the side of the Klitschkos. And for what it's worth, before Wladimir lost to Sanders we were willing to anoint him the heir apparent.

Why do you want to be a victim so badly? We don't ****ing hate you.

This is what happens when you try to play the victim instead of actually looking at the facts and understanding the situation.

Winky and Bhop are not Heavyweights and therefore are not held to the same standard. Heavyweights are often looked upon to be the baddest man on the planet. And when Wlad has the power, size, skill and speed to do that yet he still puts on a boring display it's hard to stay interested if you're a casual fan.

Winky and Bhop made a name for themselves and they made their money by beating marquee fighters. The Klits haven't beat a marquee fighter. Haye is a marquee fighter and Wlad beating him would be a big step.

The Klits don't have to be black or American for Greenburg pursue them.

Wlad was being labeled the heir apparent in 2002 but

-he loses to Sanders (an aging journeyman) in a 1 sided KO loss
-he loses to Brewster (an ordinary fighter) in a come from behind KO loss shortly after the Sanders fight
-he has a shaky showing against TOS Williamson even tasting the canvas; ends up winning a TD
-he gets dropped 3 times against Sam Peter and pulls out a win. His durability questions remain but his resolve and will to win is salvaged.
-he gets heavy media promotion for his fight against Ibragimov and his performance is a stinker

^ That's why the networks abandoned him, and when the networks abandon you the fans forget you.

Vitaly was in line to being called the heir apparent or next generation but:

-he quits against Chris Byrd in 2000 with 2 rounds left to go.
-he takes an opportunity against Lennox Lewis and despite a strong showing he fails to put away Lewis or even win the fight (against an aging champion) and the passing of the torch is never completed.
-he signs on to fight Hashim Rahman but pulls out on 3 separate occasions citing injuries in training camp. I can't imagine how Greenburg would be anything less than angry/frustrated with Vitaly.
-he retires for 4 years after the Rahman debacle at a time when he was just being introduced to the public. Obviously HBO wasn't happy with his retirement at all. You can't leave the spotlight for 4 years right before you get famous and expect to get attention when you get back when you pissed of some network execs. His comeback would have been bigger if he retired as a marquee name in America. He was on the verge of become one but disappeared before it happened.

If you're looking for a real reason why they aren't big in America it's because they aren't exposed to the American Public. Wlad is dating Hayden Panettiere, it would be easy to see him in the papers or the tabloids but even still he fights in Germany at times where people aren't used to watching boxing in addition he's not being sought after by the networks.

You can't blame an American for being insensitive for what's going on in the Democratic Republic of Congo if they know nothing about it.

Bottom line is that they had their chance and they both blew it when it was most important. For Wlad, he may get his change once more.
