I don't get it. JMM's chin seems to get BETTER later in the fight, even when the opposition turns it up a bit. It's almost as if he's vulnerable to flash knockdowns early in a fight but can then take substantial punishment in the later rounds. Kind of a strange trait.

Yeah. Maybe he's just a bit 'cold' and more flat footed early on and needs a few rounds under his belt to settle.

I think if you have already tasted the power in the early rounds you know whats coming and you can deal with it better

Adjustment. Even punches landing flush are not landing THAT clean anymore. Pretty much like Calzaghe.

Not sure what your talking about. Marquez has always had a great chin. Pac knocked him down 3 times in one round. You cant knock out Marquez. He has that Mexcian warrior spirit. He just bangs his gloves and goes in for more.

Wasn't Pac's knock down of JMM in a later round in the second fight?

JMM has a good chin but his recover abilities are legendary.

Shame his punches couldn't be progressively harder as the fight went on...

He's a slow starter and it takes him a little while to get warmed up. Once you're warmed up and loose you can absorb punches better.

Joe Calzaghe to an extent, also. All of his career knockdowns (Mitchell, Salem, Hopkins, Jones) happened in the first 4 rounds.
