100% agreed, someone with common sense. The negativity of so called hardcore boxing fans is a joke.

YES, he really did say that.
It was while Wladimir Klitschko was getting his hands wrapped for the public workout, Spencer Oliver was one of the commentators, and was commenting on how while Wlad is confident of winning this fight even Wlad knows that AJ is destined to succeed him sometime soon in the future, and that's where he said :"will go on to reign as the greatest heavyweight of all time".

Why shouldn't I "care" about how much **** the pundits are talking ?
If they are talking like some crazy know-nothing idiot drunks down the pub or making outlandish non-serious statements for a giggle, what's the point ?

What's wrong with expecting some sort of reasonable analysis or at least more moderate 'hype' ?

Fortunately for us fans we have these boxing forums to express our opinions on the opinions of the broadcast-media-employed pundits.
Usually i wouldn't bother but that particular statement - that went unchallneged - made me think there must be some sort of hysteria among the SKY team.

I'm not complaining about the fight nor the scale of the fight.
The fight is a big fight and rightly so.

    That's besides the point though.

It's not negativity to point out excessive hype.

Excessive hype can turn out to be a negative for the sport in the long run and definitely can damaged some of the over-hyped fighters, as I described in the opening post.

Also, respect for the history of the sport and the legends of the past would normally mean a pundit saying "I believe Anthony Joshua will become the greatest of all time" would be followed up with (or met with) a more moderate statement to temper it.
I mean, talking about getting ahead of yourselves.

Nothing wrong at all and there has been plenty of reasonable analysis on the fight. You've picked out one (unverified) quote from one person and presented it as the norm. I don't think that's the case. Regardless, he's entitled to his opinion, if that's what he believes.

He never bought the subject up, he was asked and said it would be nice to be the first billionaire boxer?

thank you, finally someone isn't being backwards about the whole billionaire quote...and even if he had just come out and said it randomly, who doesn't fantasise about being a billionaire?

Declaring your desire to become a billionaire seems to run contrary to staying humble and shows him in a different light. I don't have a problem with his ambitions even if they do come across as a bit greedy I just don't like the false persona we're sold. Be who you are.

I think you're reading too much into that. He said it tongue in cheek.

Him wanting to become a Billionaire is not something that should be used against him. Whats wrong with wanting to become as wealthy as possible? Pretty sure he shares plenty of his wealth.

What do people expect him to do to prove his staying humble? Buy a watch from Argos, drive a Fiat Punto and holiday in Clacton.

The guy is allowed to enjoy his wealth. That does not mean he isn't humble.

Nothing wrong with enjoying what you can have but it's certainly not humble. Anyway I'd rather he stopped pretending to be 'humble' all the time and just did him. If you think the image presented by Matchroom and Sky is the real Joshua then good luck to you but I don't think it is.

It's not just that though is it? I mean it wasn't that long ago he was talking proudly about getting into boxing so he could 'dominate' his area. Yeah he was younger then but I find people are who they are they just calm down a bit as they get older and wiser.

Now, I don't have a problem with him being a bit rough - lots of fighters are - I just don't like having this gentleman Joshua nonsense foisted upon me by Eddie Hearn and co.

yeah I am getting that feeling a bit. He looks the part but I can see him getting exposed, he looks too bulked up to go a long fight. I could see him getting exposed by Wlad to be honest. he looks great knocking out fringe contenders but how will he look against a well prepared champ is the question, if Wlad has anything left I think the truth will come out. In a weak division you can get away with a lot it seems.

I haven't seen anything to suggest otherwise. Foisted upon you? Oh dear, you precious thing - having his persona 'foisted' on you must be very hard. I'm sure if you retreat to your safe space, you'll recover in no time.
