This is the kind of thought/logic that irritates me... Commissions have their own rules regarding this matter. Go read them up, I'll look for a quote from the CSAC which provides evidence to what I'm going to say. Basically if they know or catch a fighter using something that is not legal (foreign substance or whatever you wish to call it) they have all the right to suspend the fighter. The lab results then came back "positive" what more do you want?
Fair enough, I'm just not willling to convict anyone when the facts are not clear and who in the case of Margarito by the words of the CSAC inspectors themselves, was more than cooperative since the moment the controversy with Richardson started. .....did you know that des? When Capetillo was having it out with the inspector about Richardson being allowed to dictate the sequence in which they wrapped Margarito's hands.......Richardson at one point asked for Margarito to remove his the wrap that had already been wrapped and signed off by the inspector.....while Capetillo was mad about it, Margarito stuck his hand out and asked Capetillo to unwrap him. The inspectors backed Margarito's story about this, to which I feel he should be given the benifit of the doubt, as there is a good chance he was clueless that there was an illegal knucklepad on his wrap.
Instead of the CSAC saying that lab results show that some elements that make up plaster were found, the same elements that are found in other things beside plaster, they'd do themselves a service by clearing it up and stating that actual plaster was found in Margarito's knucklepads.
I don't understand why a lot of you people avoid the fact that something illegal was in those wraps!!! Not only that, you also use the excuse that Mosley stated the wraps seemed normal to him, Mosley's job is not to feel the wraps, he goes out and fights. Richardson and numerous people from the CSAC have stated the wraps felt hard. Combine that with evidence/findings from the Department of Justice, PLUS the fact that Arum, being a lawyer, has not done anything to try and reinstate Margo and goddamit I ask again - what more do you want?! Divac, aren't you the one that accuses Pacquiao of PED use simply because the guy avoids the subject all together and refused a couple blood tests? Same logic applies here - Arum has pretty much avoided the Margarito incident thus far so that means AM is guilty. P.S. Margarito tried to get his license back, he got denied. The only logical thing for him to do now is take this to court but we haven't heard anything...What we've heard is how he is going to Mexico and continue fighting - I wonder why :think
Really? Just look around, Des! He wasn't even caught fighting dirty and even if he were (but he wasn't), there should be a statement regarding Margarito's responsibility since it was the trainer who tried to cheat, but no one have ever stated Margarito knew about it. Yet: "he (not Capetillo) should be banned for good", "go to jail" and "his wins erased". Based on exactly what?
Knowingly or not, Margarito is responsible. Its his team and he is the one fighting. Ignorance excuses no one, unfortunately for him, he got caught. He is basically suffering for something he didnt do personally, but still falls under his jurisdiction. If your dog bit you neighbor, its your responsibility to take him to the hospital and fix things.
For ****sakes, do you understand that the dog only barked, but there was no bite? Are you ******ed? If the illegal wraps were found AFTER the fight, it would be a whole lot different and I'd agree with severe punishment: Margarito fought dirty, simple as that. But Capetillo was caught doing illegal wraps BEFORE the fight, and Margarito's responsibility for something that almost happened, but in the end didn't, and there's no evidence he knew about what was going to happen, but didn't happen, is very very weak to ban him for good, or even for one year. So Capetillo tried and was caught, okay, I'd agree with banning Capetillo for good and fining Margarito or hell, suspention for 6 months. But why would you assume he actually knew about it when the Commission never said that, and why would you assume he fought dirty in previous fights, when the Commission never even refered to past fights? Why would you punish Margarito as he was guilty for purposefully fighting dirty, if there was no dirty fight, and there's no evidence that Margatrito knew what was Capetillo about to do?
In that regard, you're right. People are saying that, I should have said "I am not saying". But, the simple facts are he was caught wearing the loaded gloves and was going to fight with them. Not many people other than Margarito fans believe he was unaware of what was happening. How could he not be? Why is he not outraged at Capetillo? Looking to recoup lost wages if he was wronged by the man? It is more believable that Capetillo fell on the sword for Margarito. We'll probably never know the ins and outs of the situation. Maybe Capetillo talked him into it..... Maybe it was Margo's idea? Who knows. Certainly none of us. The speculation on this can go any way a person wants to steer it. I could say it would have been in the best interest of the CSAC to clear Margarito as it would have protected them and their inspectors from embarrassment. Mosley had already demolished Margo, so he would have nothing to lose. But the CSAC found him guilty, unanimously. I could say that, but its just guesswork. None of us actually knows what happened. Those involved do. I'll take the neutral panel, over the guy who got caught and says he didn't know, any day. But the simple facts have not changed. Margarito was caught with loaded gloves on his hands, was subject to a hearing and his license revoked unanimously by a panel of 7.
I'm not a Margarito fan, I'm a fan of civilized law which says you are innocent until found guilty. Capetillo trying to load gloves but getting caught without evidence of Margarito knowing about it simply doesn't make Margarito guilty. If you believe he definitely knew about it, it's your personal opinion, you can say Margarito is a cheat, Pacquiao is a cheat, and you can get your ass sued. But there's no evidence against Margarito, since there was no fight and the Commission never ruled Margarito guilty of knowing what's going on, they suspended as his trainer tried to load gloves, but that would be a laughable argument before court. It was never taken to court, since there was no "crime" unlike Resto-Collins. Margarito is "not outraged" and not suing Capetillo because he went completely silent on the subject as Bob Arum, his boss and Harvard lawyer suggested him.
I think the plaster takes a few minutes to harden. It may feel soft before the fight but during the later rounds it becomes rock-hard.
The CSAC did rule Margarito guilty. Why do you keep saying they didn't? I'll post the link to the minutes again. http://www.dca.ca.gov/csac/about_us/meetings/20090210_minutes.pdf He claimed he didn't know, and they didn't believe him, just like the vast majority of the people out there. It flies in the face of reason that someone could do that to someone else without that person knowing.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2009/03/margarito-wraps.html Illegal substances found in his raps, cheato was ready to go on the night, thank god he was caught before he could inflict the damage, sorry but you have got to be punished for these things, end of story At the end of the day you have to take responsibility for whats in your gloves, they are wrapped right in front of your eyes, the idea that a coach takes this decision to load them by himself is highly unlikely, think about it, but even IF he did cheato has to take his fair share of responsibility regardless, having it any other way would just encourage others to try to cheat and think they can get away with it by blaming someone else for whats discovered on themselves, there would be plenty of people willing to take a risk like that if the fighter himself could just move on Wasnt there a picture of cheato on someones shoulder after the cotto fight that looked a bit suspecious?? Was that genuine or a fake?
The document at no point states Antonio Margarito was found guilty of knowing about Capetillo's attempt. In fact, the trainer testified that his fighter didn't know. The Commission, which has no legal authority outside of licencing, did not explain why Margarito's licence was revoked, and did NOT say they don't believe him. There was no claim during the hearing that Margarito was lying and there was no evidence presented that he knew about it. They simply questioned the witnesses and Margarito's team, then voted on Capetillo's and Margarito's licence, but while there's a legit case againt Capetillo (he purposefully tried to load gloves), there was no evidence presented against Margarito, but they revoked his licence regardless. How is that justice served?
