Keep digging? Apparently, you won't recognize the winner "just because."

We'll have a WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION on February 22.

And that man will join a list stretching back nearly 100 years of those who earned THE RING CHAMPIONSHIP.

    Including:

    Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney

uhhhh...yeah, not really the point. In this case Ring does speak for everyone because it’s kinda their belt. It matters, it’s a big deal, it’s historic, and not sure why this bothers you so much.

meh, I don’t care either way, the point he was making is wilder has beat one guy and Fury zero in the current top 10, and if we are making a big deal out of the ring now. That sucks.

Ok well you stand in the corner with your arms folded and we’ll celebrate/acknowledge the historical event. I’m sure your lack of acknowledgement will take some luster away but we’ll have to manage.

Genuine question. Is Tyson Fury the first lineal heavyweight champion not to hold a recognised organisations belt?

And is he the first non belt holder to be announced as the lineal champion in the ring by an MC and engage in lineal title fights with no actual belt on the line?

Michael Spinks ring a bell? Or George Foreman?

I think it just feels exaggerated as Spinks and Foreman remained active whereas Fury had three years off whilst serving that nandrolone ban.

Agreed, sort of. I don’t really respect Fury’s lineage either. That said, I do agree with TBRB and the Ring that he can start a new lineage if he beats Wilder, and vice versa.

Fury lost any right to be the so-called 'lineal champ' when he was inactive for 3 years.

I mean, it can't go on forever. There has to be a line drawn at some point right?

Who has Fury actually beaten? He's dining off his win over Klitschko but that's one fight! At no point has he been a dominant champion which further degrades his right to be the lineal champ.

He will be top dog if he beats Wilder but you can't say dominant really until he beats Joshua too.
