I cannot believe that he's already fighting Walters and if successful may possibly line up a pac fight. Talk about daring to be great... It's unprecedented really! The pressure on his shoulders is immense but he seems like one of the coolest cats ever. Could 2017 really give us a 135 Pac v Loma?
He is making up for lost time as a pro. Doing exactly what he should be if he wants to be considered great, good on him. GGG needs to take lessons, guy is wasting his talent beating bums for shitty belts that no one cares about..
The only active fighter I'd put in Loma's category as far as fighting top tier guys so early on in his pro career is Rigondeaux. Both of them were standouts as amateurs and now they're just flat out elite level fighters at the pro level. I don't think Gennady should be mentioned in this thread. He's a great fighter in his own right but his ambitions are clearly different in comparison to what Vasyl is trying to accomplish as a pro. That's not a knock on him whatsoever, you can't really be too harsh on a guy who wants to unify a division.
GRJ, Martinez, Walters.... Come on now? Even some of the others though not world class are certainly not bottom feeders, sort of intermediary fighters that average prospects would be fighting at like 10-15 fights! Any boxing fan can not fault this young man whatsoever. He should transcend race & nationality.
i mean how dare he, he didn't even fight the mandatory 20 homeless guys before going for a world title, no respect for tradition
I don't think any elite guy really needs to do that. I just hate how slow some of these guys get brought along. If you were fighting world class athletes in the amateurs and you already have like 400 rounds of boxing experience then you ought to be fighting for titles from day one. Stop wasting everybody's time. Fighting bums is taking a huge step back for some of these guys. Okay, if you want to acclimate do that. But take these guys out like ten in a year. If they ain't ever damaging you then you can fight once a month, same as you did at the amateur level. There's no excuse to fight two bums a year and take ten years crawling your way to a title, not when the best in this sport have about 30 amateur fights and then pick up a belt by the time they are twenty.
