Everytime he fights, Wlad gets bad critics for being too careful, holding too much, fighting too squared up like many Europeans do, etc.. He fights everyone they put in front of him and if it wasn't for the boxing politics, I'm sure he would already have the 4 major belts around his waist ! Like him or not, the fact remains that : -He has a better resume as of now than all the active Heavyweight fighters today besides possibly Evander Holyfield. -He has one of the best P4P jabs in all of boxing. -He has a very high KO % Today we consider Larry Holmes and Lennox Lewis like ATGs, but I remember the time when both we're practically talked about the same way that people talk about Wlad today... Lennox was considered boring in many of his fights, not exciting enough, etc. Larry Holmes it was said was fighting in a very weak Heavyweight era, therefore didn't deserve too much credit for his accomplishments, etc. Today, Holmes and Lennox are locks in ATG ballots and the fact is that in 20 years, Wlad will most likely be looked upon to be, on the same level as Lewis and Holmes...like it or not !!!
Well I'm afraid Im going to ! Wlad has all the tools , size , decent speed , athletic abillity and power............but he fights scared. He is a monster yet fights like he deosn't want to be there half the time. On his way up Wlad wasn't like that and he got a lot more respect for the states but after Sanders and Brewster he became a different guy. He still wins and fair play to him , but fans ( especially US fans ) like to see a HW champ who goes out there with no fear in his heart and destuction on his mind. That aint Wlad , he is about the winning.
if it wasn't for politics you think he would fight his brother? what an excuse. and don't blame racism either because his brother doesn't get half the criticism. the reason he is put down is 1) He is boring as hell. 2) He has no inside game. 3) He fights like a stiff. 4) His division sucks. 5) He got his ass kicked by Sanders and Brewster.
If it wasn't for the politics, Wlad would have been able to fight for all the belts before Vitali decided to come back.
Boxing's just weird like that... It's rare for most Heavyweights to receive credit or appreciation (Tyson was a rare exception as everyone was head over heels when he hit the scene) while they're an active fighter. I totally remember how poorly Lewis was viewed when he was champ and yeah, Holmes was seriously dissed as well and yet today both receive their accolades. I was actually reading an old boxing mag and even the guys in the 70's weren't viewed as anything special by the writers of that time and today that era is viewed as one of the best ever. Wlad is building a nice legacy for himself and if he continues to rack up the wins and title defences, I'm sure the next generation will give him his due the same as this one now does with Holmes and Lewis.
Indeed, it is a no win situation I suppose. if he does go all out he risks losing and ( as we sadly know ) in the modern era fighters arent allowed to lose or he stays boxing carefully and winning but puts up with the negative press. ( all this said I reckon he would get an easier time of it were the brothres K from California rather than the Ukriane ! )
