For a good example of how a low left can be of benefit take a look at Arturo Gatti and how it helped him... he wasn't blessed with top class reflexes either.

I'm sure there was a stage in his career when Tyson used to use a low left for the crotch grab and keep his right up for the choke hold. This was before he switched trainers and discovered Rohypnol though.
