(Posted this in the British forum, more people here, might as well go in here)

What are the benefits of a low left hand like David Haye has?

The flaws to it are obvious.

Are there any advantages of having it or is it just a bad habit?

Protect the body and hooks or jabs arent seen coming as easily compared to being eye level to opponent.

Up jab, can be quicker for some, but not worth it to me. Sometimes can bring opponent, as far as I am concerned, bad habit, but if quick, can be used for advantage. It is debatable

well, if you keep your left hand low it leaves your right free to make unfunny posts on esb about calzaghe.

If you use a low left hand guard, and have the speed to employ it, the up-jab can be very effective.

The bigggest advantage of letting that left hand hang down is that it makes you less tired from keeping it up. It can also be used a s bait for a counter, and it can hide the nagle at which the jab will hit.

Also, if a fighter is very tall, keeping the left hand low leaves it closer to a shorter opponents face, thus making it quicker.

harder to see jab. Shoulder roll d and counters open up b/c the opponent thinks you are wide open

In my opinion, this is definitley beneficial to a fast fighter and a fighter who can move his upper body quickly or wants to do this...look at Ali... If youve mastered this and have fast enough reflexes its perfect for slipping a right hand. and in myopinion if you dont want to get tired this is very good..
