Muhammad Ali, Lost 1 Rocky Marciano, Lost 1 Floyd Patterson, Lost 1 Lloyd Marshall, Won 2 Ezzard Charles, Lost 3 Jimmy Bivins, Won 3, Lost 1 Harold Johnson, Won 3, Lost 1 Charley Burley, Lost 1 Cocoa Kid, Won 1 Holman Williams, Won 1, Lost 1 Eddie Booker, Won 1, Drew 2 Jack Chase, Won 4, Lost 1 This give Moore 15-12 & 2 versus the best he ever took up against. Respectable, but not totally dominant. What can be said is that this is an astounding line up of p4p talent, some of the very best fighters who have ever breathed are in this line up. Moore really did take on an extraordinary array of fighters. Intersting that he could never beat the incredible Booker. Can anything be learned about Moore from this list? Anyone brave enough to organise these men into a pound for pound list, first to last?
I meant that the twelve best fighters that Fitz faced would not be anything like as good as the twleve best fighters that Moore faced.
I think you will find Joey Maxim to be better than some on your list. Moore beat him three times. Also, he beats Bivins and Johnson four times apiece. I'm pretty sure he fought Jack Chase six times as well, although I can't recite the wins and losses.
He was 38 when he fought Marciano and was on his biggest win streak ever and he KO' top Heavy contender Baker and beat Valdes 2 times, he still had ROCKY DOWN DESPITE GETTING A BEATING 8 yrs later he fought Ali and landed some good punches on Ali despite being 46 or more. Patterson caught him with a good hook but archie took a bad 9 rd beating from Marciano a year or so before and he was done in the Heavy division. Charles was the best ever at lightheavy and no shame losing to him. the rest are a great bunch and Archie did well, there will never be another OLD MONGOOSE
Bare in mind that most of these fights were conducted in the kind of schedule that would have sent Spinks scurrying back to bar management quick smart. He'd be waring that Tyson face 2 nights out of 3.
