Boxing was a very different sport back in the day too.

Yea. But he had a point, though. I mean it was a brutal, one sided beating of epic proportions. They should have never let the fight go on for the full 15, hell not even 12. The ref and Cobb's corner were utterly braindead.

    I agree.

I think some fights get stopped far too early nowadays, but that one is absolutely no doubt at the other end of the extreme.

No doubt. And it's frustrating as hell when it happens too!

    Marciano
    Chuvalo
    Holyfield
    Jess Willard
    George "scrap iron" Johnson

Cobb had great chin, but Holmes was not a eal hard banger.

Ali had better chin late in career than in early career. That Frazier left hook was not so hard, there are guys who would have stood up to it. Joe was not a one punch banger.

I recall Ken Norton's book where he cited his fight with Tex Cobb.
A 10 or 12 rd decision for Norton. Drawn out heavy hitting throughout.

Seemed to end amicably. But later in the lobby, the fact that Cobb had bet his entire purse on himself vs the past-prime Norton had him steaming. He wanted to go some more with Norton bare fisted in the lobby. Norton had to call the cops.

    Best HW chins?

    Chuvalo
    Ali
    Holyfield
    Foreman
    Mercer
    Vitali, but weak skin
    Cobb

Tex Cobb has his full senses still.

in sport and recreation management. He remarked that it was odd to hear the cheers of a packed arena without being in a boxing ring. "It was nice to have that opportunity to wear a robe, to step up there and not have to worry about bleeding," Cobb said"

For heavyweight champions, I'd go Marciano, Holyfield, Dempsey, Willard, Sullivan, although Sulivan was so far back it's tough to be certain. Jeffires had great chin. Joe Louis got wobbled and knocked down a few times, but always recovered.
I can't see what Vitali has done besides Lewis fight to show a great chin.
