Lets say NJ, USA not the whole country Hagler was born here but moved to Mass and boxed there Walcott was born, raised, competed and died here Qawi was not born here but grew up and fought here
Cheers mate.. yes good shouts along with Benn, Calzaghe, Naz, Stracy, Buchanan etc.. What about Mclarnin? Isn't he N. Irish?
Ingo. Closest competition would be Badou Jack, I suppose. Eklund was European champ, but recieved one of the most brutal KO's ever by the hand of terrible Tim. George Scott held a WBU title during the brief time that org existed. Like Ingo he was Olympic silver medalist (or maybe Ingo never recieved his medal, btw). Since I live in Brussels now, the great Lion of Flanders should get a shout out.
I had no idea you were Swedish, Bokaj. Your English is impeccable, though I suppose that's not a rarity amongst Scandinavians.
Marcel Cerdan, Georges Carpentier, Charles Humez, Laurent Boudouani, Laurent Dauthuille, Émile Pladner. Charles Humez was ranked number 1 in Middleweight for something like 4-5 years, but he was ducked for a world belt. He is from my region. Jean-Baptiste Mendy in my heart his style, his soul was so beautiful probably the most charismatic boxer in "modern era in France" ! Fabrice Tiozzo & Laurent Boudouani was the most skilled boxers in history of France. Unfortunately, Christophe Tiozzo never trained; he spent his time in casinos, drinking, and with women in Lyon.
I think the best Swedish boxer is Ingemar Johansson he is the "Deontay Wilder of Sweden". The best Finnish boxer is Robert Helenius, the best Norwegian boxer is Pete Sanstol and the best Danish boxer is Jimmy Bredahl.
Scandinavian boxing history isn't my forte. Off the top of my head I'd agree with you on Ingo and Sanstol. I think I'd have Battling Nelson and Mikkel Kessler above Bredahl. Finland is easily the weakest of the four in terms of boxing history. Perhaps Gunnar Barlund has a shout ahead of Helenius, but both were only fringe contenders.
An he fought for Canada twice in the Olympics, in 84 when he lose to biggs an 88 when he beat bowe. Had he signed up with King or Duva after the Olympics, he would have been like Michael bentt an no one would be having this discussion now
