Raging Bull was about Jake Lamotta who was a boxing but I don't really see it as a boxing film per se. Best would be Rocky IV. 1, The death of Apollo. And 2, 'He's worried! You cut him! You hurt him! You see? You see? He's not a machine, he's a man!' Classic stuff
If Im not mistaken that was the 60's movie starring Jon Voight correct? If so, it has been many years since I last saw it, but I remember it being good.
They rarely ever can. No, I didn't get the name from the 30's left hooker, but I should have realized the connection.
In my public speaking class, for a speech we had to write about an event, so I wrote about Ali-Frazier I, with visual aids of the Frazier left hook knockdown in round 15 to seal the deal. People loved it. As far as a boxing movie thats a sleeper, check out Willem Dafoe in Triumph of the Spirit. He plays Salamo Arouch, a Jewish boxer who fought in Auschwitz. His record was 208-0-2 (208 KOs) in Auschwitz. The fights went until someone couldn't go anymore. The losers of the boxing matches in Auschwitz were murdered while the winners were rewarded extra food, etc. Very interesting movie. Teddy Atlas worked with Dafoe on his boxing and worked on choreographing the fights and is in the movie.
Good for you sir. Not very many ways to spread the word about this great sport. I try to incorporate it as much as I can in the college world to educate the people on the greatest sport ever.
"The Boxer" starring Daniel Day-Lewis has some very good fight scenes in it. Day-Lewis was trained by Barry McGuigan and achieved a very good level of realism onscreen. As for boxing documentaries, unquestionably the best I've ever seen is "Unforgivable Blackness" by Ken Burns about the career of Jack Johnson, centering on his fight with Jeffries. Here's a clip from it... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xLCpSwYGRQs
I just read about Arouch recently. It was posted in the classic forum, very tragic story. Good to hear that you've been spreading the sport of boxing:good.
I looked it up online. It was called "The Last Fight" starring Fred Williamson and Ruben Blades. Jose Torres and Salvador Sanchez were in it as well as Don King http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084236/fullcredits#cast
