I always love a slick southpaw taking a dopey orthodox fighter to school so my favourite display of pure boxing has to be Joe v Lacy. I also enjoyed Polo v Harrison, Martinez v Dodson/Williams 2 for the same reasons

Of more recent times Ward v Froch. I thought Ward was overhyped and taht Froch would get to him and deal with him. Couldn't have been more wrong

JMM vs Katsidis was a beautiful display really, bar the knockdown it was a class display. TBH the knockdown was down to Katsidis good work, gotta give credit sometimes.

    Vitali vs Peter
    Calzaghe vs Lacy

  4. Marquez vs Katsidis is a good shout actually.

Katsidis gave it his all but was dominated from start to finish pretty much, it was an exhibition of masterful inside fighting and continuous adjustments from Marquez to leave Katsidis clueless as to what to do by the 4th round on, other than march forward and get hit more and more.

Really good stoppage by Bayless too, a 40t truck wouldn't have put Katsidis down that night, he just wanted it so badly but was outgunned in the end.

He has a lot of power, because of what you said.

Not raw force, but then, a lot of great punchers used pure technique rather than sheer power to score many K.Os, the easiest example is Archie Moore.

Marquez is not that level of puncher but on his best night he'd get the respect of anyone he hits right up to 135 IMO. His K.O of Juan Diaz, wobbly when cut but always tough, was one of the best top level finishes of the last decade IMO. Marquez is a great combination puncher, scaring accurate with great timing, and the fact he's not afraid to take one makes him one of the most potent offensive forces, an aggressive counter puncher and he's in a position to score with heavy leather.

He's above average for power and the rest of his attributes make him a phenomenal puncher. Ricardo Lopez with bollocks.

Marquez-Pacqiuao III has to be up there in terms of level of opposition and dominance. Over the consensus P4P no.1 no less!

Why is everyone picking fights where one demensional fighters where dominated..?

Plus the ultimate aim of the game in boxing is to disarm your oponent via knock-out. So therefore, boring ass one sided fights against one demensional oponents should not be in this thread.

Mike Tyson vs Tyrell Biggs was a display of pure boxing, Mike Tyson out jabbed Biggs, went to the body, went to the head, broke him down sistamatically in a stressfull fight for Tyrell Biggs. He had a look of abuse on his face, he was a victim, a victim of violence and self retribution that night.

If its not violent, i am not impressed.

  13. I'm not sure whether I prefer the 2nd Marquez vs Pacquiao display to be honest, even though the fight was closer.

Though for the OP's question the 3rd probably has to rank higher.

One that might be forgotten is Rafa vs Izzy in the first fight.... most people only tend to remember the all out war they had in the 3rd fight. After seeing the first fight ages later I'm surprised there was a return to be honest.

Biggs was an Ali impersonator, and not talented enough to pull it out. Ace display I agree Kool, but well outside the parameters clearly stated in the thread title and OP.
