The Best Display of Pure Boxing in Last 12 Years (2000-12)

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by SkillspayBills, Apr 10, 2012.

  1. Hearns vs Barkley was one of the most one sided hidings I've seen.

But the man doing the hiding lost :-(

I think Golota's display in the first Bowe fight is worthy of a mention..... come to think of it.

Its depends what you class as pure boxing..? Hurting guys, knocking guys out, breaking them down..? is a skill.

Yes, I don't think you've understood my post at all, ho-hum.

Wanna' see some pure boxing, watch Ayub Kalule Vs Ho Joo on YouTube then come back and thank me. 'The Great Ugandan' was a great Ugandan.

    I understood your post 110%.

But i disagree with people's ideas of what pure boxing is...? If you want to suggest a fight is pure boxing, you have to involve all the attributes. And beating guys down, and knocking guys out is a skill..? Yes its violent but it is a vital skill.

Floyd Mayweather is not as skillfull as Mike Tyson or Nigel Benn in hurting guys. Its not just about power, its about instinct, smelling and sensing fear, knowing where to hit guys and hurt them most.

Its sadistic in nature, i don't think it can be taught in boxing gyms. Its psychological..? It comes from the streets.

Some of these fights i have seen people suggest are pure boxing in this thread....? Are not pure boxing........i am sorry.

If the fighter has just, played tick basically for 12 rounds. ..? Its not pure boxing. "In my opinion"

What you need for it to qaulifie as pure boxing, is the full spectrum of skills and violence. And it must end, in a knock-out, TKO or a fighter quiting on his stool.

    A complete pure boxing performance.

Prima Donna Kool into the breach, it's like the charge of the light brigade in here. I have to say that I agree with his visceral sentiment (a more nuanced view of boxing ability would take into account damage done from scoring shots) and ( in the absense of time and desire to put the work in on Ayub Kalule Vs Ho Joo (copied and pasted) nominate Hopkins-Trinidad from my limited repertoire.

PS: What's his face vs what's his face isn't even on youtube. Wanker.

PPS: I saw PKs reason for editing the other day was "**** Off" and I have to say that I also agree with that, with a glass of whisky in hand after a heavy night out. God bless fellas.

PPPS: Sobering up now and wathcing that Kalule against McCallum, ****ning hell never heard of the guy and he's got more evasive maneuvers than Amanda Knox with the counter attacking sting of a spurned Katie Price!

    Calzaghe v Lacy
    Hopkins v Tarver, Tito, Pavlik
Mayweather v Corales(post 2000?), Gatti, Hatton, Marquez, Mosely
    Marquez v Pac trilogy
    Morales v Pac
    Barrera v Naz

I thought Hopkins at times v Calzaghe was brilliant too

Cant believe no-one else rates the Byrd-Tua fight.

A feather-fisted slickster dominating one of the most destructive HW punchers of recent times. The way he slipped, countered & went to the body was very impressive.
