The best 'featherfisted' Heavyweights of all time?

    I was reading the David Price power thead and I started thinking about this one.

    Boxing is not always about punching power. Far from it. Guys like Calderon and Paulie M have become world titlists in their own right, despite not having a pop. But of course, these guys are fairly small. As we go up in weight, we find boxers with naturally more power.

    But i wondered, who are the best featherfisted heavyweights of all time?Infact, are there any? I'm not looking for blown up LightHeavies who have had 5 fights at HW winning all on points. I want the name of the best fully fledged Heavyweights who simply didnt hit very hard.

    For the purpose of this, featherfisted is someone with under a 35% KO ratio.

    Ali didnt really hit that hard, dunno if id say feather fisted though mate.

    I never like looking at the KO% to decide if someone is feather fisted. There are some fighters out there with decent pop that have low%'s just as there are fighters out there that have a superb set of multi-coloured grade #A feather dusters that have high KO ratio due to poor stoppages etc.

    Ali is considered a non-puncher, but it's his speed, determination and accuracy that got the job done against astoundingly durable Heavys.

    Tunney could hit well enough in 4oz gloves, as could Corbett. Neither massive punchers though.

    And I agree with Will, K.O% means absolutely zilch in many cases.

    Yeh Ali was the one that came to mind first up, but, although he didnt bang hard, he still had decent power, so it's unfair to include him in this list IMO.

    Corbett is a great shout Flea.

    Will - I totally understand where you're coming from. By all means, include your 'featherfisted' heavies, even if the KO ratio is above 35%

    Jimmy Young and Jimmy Ellis (doesn't fit the 'blown-up parameter as he fought at Heavy extensively) Neither were massive punchers. Feather fist is harsh though, and to be fair, anyone weighing 14 stone plus can hurt you if they catch you (example: Jameel McLine-Sam Peter)

    Tunney deffo wasn't feather fisted. He just chose not to get involved a lot of the time. Think Greb would agree with me!!!

    Considering his size I have always felt mcihael grant isn't a particuly big hitter.

    As for Ellis he had Bonavena badly hurt, so could produce a dig when he needed to. A small Heavy though.

    Dunno that he would mate, Tunney don't get Grebs respect at all with his punches. He did develop as a fighter though and that helped him to nullify Greb and gain his admiration.

    Tunney hurt Carpentier to the body and IIRC was the first man to stop Gibbons. With 8oz gloves I doubt he'd be all that hurtful a puncher. Decent, yes, but when talking about top-class Heavys towards the bottom end.

    Vitali Klitschko is a good shout.
