I love the Thrilla, but let's no forget that both of those guys were past their best and Frazier had pretty bad eye-trouble going in.
Foreman vs Lyle was a better war then Hagler-Hearns IMO [YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96KfeAFakak[/YT]
I think that's part of the reason the fight was so exciting, they weren't as hard to hit. Ali was less mobile (after exile, but especially by 75') so he was more hittable. Frazier was good in certain spots (round 3) at slipping shots but eventually Ali started tagging him at well. They were better in 71' but I prefer the Manila fight.
There`s never been a better rd than Hagler-Hearns rd 1 IMO (rd 2 was great too) but the fight wasnt long enough, it makes my top 10 but for me, Morales-Barrera I & Chacon-Edwards II were the greatest fights of all time, the Chacon fight having a little more sustained action & the Morales fight having the higher technical skills. :good
1. Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo 1 2. Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier 3 3. Matthew (Franklin) Saad Muhammad-Marvin Johnson 1 4. Archie Moore-Yvon Durelle 1 3 and 4 are interchangable.
Fights 2 and 3 were too one sided outside of a couple of rounds, making the trilogy overrated to me, but they were still very good fights, with the first being great.
Yeah, the first Gatti-Ward fight was great. The 2nd was alright, the third was pretty good. A rather one-sided trilogy. In the last 20 years, Bowe-Holyfield, Barrera-Morales, and Vazquez-Marquez were all better trilogies. Gatti-Robinson 1 is slightly better than Gatti-Ward 1 IMO. None of the rounds in that were quite as great as round 9 of Gatti-Ward, but the back and forth action was more sustained throughout.
Foreman-Lyle does about as much for me as Hamed-Kelley.... not near as much as it does for other people, sloppyness of the highest order IMO. Havent seen the Basillio one but the MAB-Mckinney fight was top notch :good
one of my favourite fights but not my favourate as not long enough frazier-ali 3 chacon-edwards 2 mab-moraels 1 benn-mccellan foreman-lyle sanchez-nelson pryor-arguello 1
