Its a bold statement to pick out one fight that is the best of all time but for me its the 1982 showdown for the WBC Super Bantamweight title between Wilfredo Gomez and Lupe Pintor ....... This fight had everything !!

Barrera vs Mckinney, Barrera vs Morales I, Arguello vs Pryor 1, Corrales vs Castillo 1 are all fights that have legitimate claims to be the greatest ever in my humble opinion.

Barrera vs Morales I for me. :good

Hagler/Hearns was the greatest fight ever. The first round has not been duplicated and if you guys find a first round like that with those kind of punches landed show it to me. This fight had boxing, brawling both guys hurt and the top two fighters in boxing at the time. It was voted the best round ever, and it was. Corrales/Castillo were two open guys and that fight does not come close. Hagler/Hearns wins best round easily. Best fight-I think so. There was so much intensity. No other fighters could go tops like that with two hard punchers-best round and fight ever. Being there and also being at Chavez/Taylor you see the truth of fights. Hagler/Hearns was just intense. Chavez/Taylor live is another fight which was different than watching on tv. Chavez was nailing Taylor clean and for some reason the HBO commentary didn't catch it.

Probably Hagler. He finished stronger and Hearns started better by hurting Hagler.

Lyle Foreman was not high quality, These guys were out of shape and leaning all over each other. Hagler/Hearns exploded more than any fight in history in round one. Find another first round which starts like that. Incredible. Lyle and Foreman hit so hard each guy went down easily and then got up. Good fight, but not the skill level. That does matter. Someone said something about big names. but the names here produced. Hagler and Hearns were sharp and ready. Hagler/Mugabi was not great. Hagler was so sloppy that night. Had he been as sharp with John Mugabi was with Hearns, Mugabi would have been stopped early.

Ali/Frazier good but a little overrated. I am talking about intensity. Find a first round which matches Hagler and Hearns. Don't show me Mancini/Frias because Mancini was landing more clean. In Hagler/Hearns both guys landed clean. The only fights which compare to Hagler and Hearns are fights like Arguello/Pryor or Leonard/Hearns.

I was at Hagler/Hearns and McKinney vs. Barrera. Hagler/Hearns was much much much much better. People were stunned and we were all like staring with our mouths open, it was that good. That is why I mention it so much. If you were there you would know what I mean. There was a gasp about a minute into the fight. The whole palace just gasped like what the heck? McKinney Barrera was high pace, but it was typical of many Forum fights. Comparing Hagler/Hearns to McKinney/Barrera? Are you kidding? I was at both.

I was at Hagler/Mugabi also. Not the same. You could see giw Hagler was out of shape. Leonard was there with Michael J. Fox I remember and we were all wondering what he thought about the fight, but it was not close to Hagler/Hearns. Mugabi fight night was odd. There was the Sandoval fight which scared everyone, then Hearns stopped Shuler in one and the rain just made it an odd night. With Hagler and Hearns-you just had to be at the fight. After Hagler/Hearns me and my friends could hardly move. We were that exhausted from watching it. We didn't think Hearns would be able to hurt Hagler before the fight, and when Hagler's right leg caved in slightly and he wobbled we knew it. But give him credit he came right back and swung and swung, and then Hearns kept swinging back. It was just wild and exhausting. Some guy by us lost his voice for a few minutes he screamed so loud, then he got some water and it came back. One interesting thing. In the first round Hearns landed a left hook to Hagler's body and Hagler froze for a second. You could see it. On the video you cannot since you cannot see his feet. But he froze and Hearns tried it again but Hagler just threw punches. It was great.

yeah it would be different if you saw it live. Believe me. I never had chills watching a fight before that one. And Hearns took big punches so people say he cannot take a punch but if you were there, you saw Hearns take clean shots and keep throwing. By round two you could tell Hearns was throwing big punches more to keep Hagler off of him. Hagler was just a natural middleweight and Hearns had too many guts for his own good.

I was not at Corrales/Castillo but my friend was, and he was also at Hagler/Hearns. He said that fight was incredible, but it was not as intense as Hagler and Hearns and the guys were not throwing with the same intent as Hagler and Hearns. He voted Hagler/Hearns better. Arguello vs. Pryor does compete with Hagler and Hearns. Another great fight between great fighters. Great fighters do have great fights. They hit cleaner and that quality makes the fight better. Being at Hagler and Hearns live, I can guarantee you we will never have another round one like it. Never. I do not think two top guys who can hit that hard could fight like that for a whole round the way they did.

A sensational fight, but by no means the greatest. A true classic though in a great era for the sport.

I think Hagler and Hearns was the greatest fight, but I would not argue if someone said Arguello/Pryor or Ali/Frazier. Corrales and Castillo is not in the class of Hagler and Hearns or Arguello Pryor or Ali Frazier. The names take it out of consideration since they were not top notch and the level was not there. They were good, but not the best or close to it in their divisions. That was a good style matchup, but not iconic-which great fights should be. As for top fights, I am not sure you can say one fight is the greatest as much as saying one President is the greatest or one basketball player or tennis player. It comes up all the time in basketball when comparing Kobe or Lebron or Wade in basketball. Matters who you like and what style you prefer. With boxing I think Hagler/Hearns or Arguello/Pryor or Ali/Frazier are the best ever or some other fights with Zale and Foreman. I cannot pick one. They were so different but all were great. Hagler and Hearns went for broke more in the round one more than those other fights did, so you knew the fight was going to be over in a few rounds. No fighters can fight that pace and the fight go 12. I was watching the fight on TV on scramble mode since I did not order PPV and listening to between the rounds radio and some announcer named Rory Markus came on and said "What a round! If this fight continues at this pace this fight is not going to go very long". Arguello and Pryor was great also, but they were anticipating a longer fight. But it was a great fight and Pryor came through. Aaron and Alexis were a slower pace and tried to land big shots a little slower. Hearns and Hagler just went wild and landed big punches and were still sharp doing it. That was what was amazing. They were fighting a wild brawl and still they were sharp. That is where the quality came in. But rating a great fight. What do you like more? A 3 round fight packed into 12 with cuts and guys hurt and boxing and a war. or a longer fight with the same stuff, just not as packed in. There was another fight which was great.. It was on the Hearns/Benitez undercard I just forgot the names now. In New Orleans in Dec. of 1982. Hagler and Hearns does win the best round ever easily. Man I forgot. It was wild. New Orleans superdome.. Who knows what fight that was? Hearns/Benitez undercard.I hate not remembering fights when commenting on here, then later I remember.

    Damn, 1982 had Arguello-Pryor 1, Gomez-Pintor, and Chacon-Limon 4.
