Here's my top 5.. (personally , as far as i'm concerned...fedor hasn't been equaled. The only downside is that "the" fedor is not fighting the competition he used to fight....either this sad trend continues...or it'll eventually change and we'll have some big surprises in 2008)...anything is possible.. having said all that....here are the best fighters (most complete) i've seen so far in this sport...(not counting fedor)... number 1 spot goes to GSP.... An extremely skilled fighter who got beat by Serra...and even Hughes...But the guy learns from his mistakes...and he learns fast and keeps "upgrading" himself...when this guy is "on" , he's quasi invincible. not to be ****ed with. 2 Kid Yamamoto...downside of kid's career is that he rarely had the opportunity to fight top talents in his weight class...apart from that , he's a mini - killing machine.... 3 Anderson Silva....imo , he hasn't changed much...i don't personally find his competition to be anything special and i still believe that he could get in big trouble if he ever faces a submission expert..(i'm talking about the cream of the crop here)... having said that....Just like Yamamoto & st Pierre...i also think that he's undeniably skilled..."well rounded"...he's what all mma fighters "should" be...good in all areas of the game. 4 Gesias Calvancante....no comment... 5 Penn....has several defeats...his striking is average at best...but the rest is so good..so incredibly perfect that i'm still ranking him today...they call him the "prodigy" for a good reason...his record is deceiving , you have to see him in action to understand what differentiates him from the rest....it's a shame that he's so lazy though..
BJ Penns striking is not average, it's way above average. Besides Serra's Hail-Mary punch, when have you ever seen anybody get the better of GSP on the feet.....besides Penn.
I thought BJ was doing good work off his back and neutralizing GSPs attack. Also BJ attempting subs from the guard is just as, if not more, dangerous then GSP striking from top so it is pretty much an even position. GSP won that fight on takedowns, but the one that was in danger at the end was him when Penn almost sunk in that sub :deal They are my two favorite fighters.
GSP was busted up from the 1st round. His nose was bloody and i think he had a cut under his eye. Both guys standup was great but even when it went to the fence GSP was unable to get BJ to the mat despite having the single leg and going for the double leg.Penn won the 1st round hands down. His the only guy in my opinion who`s a threat to GSP.If Penn could improve his conditioning at the higher weight he could upset GSP.On the mat its fairly safe to say BJ does have a better ground game than GSP.
GSP has beaten the better men Anderson is the better fighter So it depends how much stock you put on resume
GSP As talented as Silva is, it should noted he has had more than a couple bad performances in his career. not trying, rumours were he was protesting to dana.
