Floyd mayweather no doubt, most tactical and intelligent slick black boxer in the last 30 yrs, SRL is a 2nd close, the loss to duran hurts his standing though..Pernell and RJJ tied at 3rd

well let me put it this way, leonard didn't dance / run in rounds 5 to 11. maybe held a bit too much to argue he stayed in the pocket but there were plenty of rounds that leonard traded punches with one of the greatest middleweights of all time. leonard mixed his styles up well in this fight, showed a bit of everything imo.

to have just 1 fight in 5 years and in his 1st fight at middleweight beat one of the greatest middleweights of all time is exceptional. it annoys me when people play down leonards performance against hagler.

yeah i do think it was ridiculous for leonard to fight that way v duran even though duran was a natural light weight. it was a huge mistake tactically for leonard to fight durans strengths instead of fighting to his own strengths.

i watched most of marvins career at the time and to this day have videos of his fights that were recorded at the time. i'm not sayin it was peak hagler but he was still without a doubt the best middleweight in the world at that time. hagler did look slugish at times but he also fought a fighter who stylistically gave him problems and mixed up his tactics well.

some fair points made in that, leonard did pull a few things in his favour but he did have a detached retina when he retired and hagler did have huge physical advantages stacked in his favour with leonard being a natural welterweight.

would leonard have beaten hagler at middleweight between 82-85? i'd have backed hagler but i would never write leonard off against anyone because he was charasmatic and could fight in adversity and could pull something out of the bag when he needed it most.

Agree, excellent performance, showed his guts as well as his versatility vs Hagler... great & fair win.
