Can we pick a slightly off par version of the heavyweight? If so then he might well have beaten the Jack Sharkey of the second Carnera fight.
Yeah I go back and fourth on it. Despite what his biggest fanboys say Marciano was NOT very hard to find. And that doesn't bode well against Shavers. On the other hand, Quarry wasn't hard to find either, and we all know how well Shavers faired against him. BUT, Quarry was an excellent counter-puncher, which is actually the primary reason he beat Shavers in the manner he did. Marciano was nowhere near the counter-punching skills Quarry had. It's a real 50-50 for me. If pressed, I'd lean towards Marciano bearing in mind Shavers' losses to less than stellar opponents in men like Stallings.
If he could land cleanly on Floyd Patterson he might win it. But if Floyd gets passed the first 4-5 rounds then Earnie’s chances greatly diminish
Golota he catches in one of his funny moods Ruiz......Berbick...michael Spinks.....Tommy Morrison...hide...bent....akinwande...he beats all those mutha"s
At the risk of simplifying it, potentially almost anybody, provided he could land with full force right on the point of the chin. Only a few I think, could come back from that.
It's a miracle Holmes not only did, but basically just went back to kicking his ass all over the ring.
