Shavers had a stamina problem....he never carried his power into the later rounds...never had a KO past round 7...never was able to land the big punch when he needed to...and was KO'd by Jerry Quarry in the 1st round!!! He'd beat Dempsey & Marciano?...Yeah...and then you woke up!!!
He'd definitely beat Tyson as every knows that if youre not scared of Tyson, you win. Shavers would walk through Tyson's murderous combos for 5rds showing no fear & ko Tyson in the 6th as soon as he folded under pressure. Also, da Rocks iron chin would swallow up Shavers bombs like candy for 14rds where Rockys 600+ power shots eventually wear down Shavers & he lands a 15 punch combo capped of with a coup de grace Suzie Q 1 punch ko in the 15th.
No way, wrong on several accounts. 1) Everyone does not "know" that if you are not scared of Tyson you win. Most do not believe such an extreme, simplistic idea. Do a poll, you will find out. 2) Also it was not true: many were either not afraid of Tyson, or had no more than the normal amount of sensible fear in a boxing ring. You must hate Tyson to believe something as reductionist as that, denying all talent & accomplishments by Tyson.
Ah yes, Old Brain damaged Ali and nearly losing every round to Holmes prime examples of a wars and an accurate gage of his ability. His durability was not bad, it was his endurance that hurt him most.
He would wreck Floyd Patterson. He would have a 50/50 shot vs Marciano. Rock was hittable and Ernie had huge power early.
Ofc he could had catch but sorry, these Lewis and Wlad had good reach and weight and when I had watched Shavers in some his fights, he is very suspectible to counters. Especially vs dudes with a long reach. In counter he might be catched even in moment when he punches that will increase effect from counter punch. In overall, I think he had more power than prime Foreman but this doesn't helps without decent speed and skills. Power isn't all value in boxing. Otherwise Shavers had been more rewarded than Foreman and Frazier but he isn't so highly appreciated and even lesser than Norton. If Norton was in larger size ( in size like prime Lewis and Wlad/ Vitali ) he might had gave them a lot of problems. Not definitely to win but far more dangerous than Shavers. Norton more complicated to fight with and still he wasn't weak at all. If he was larger size, then vuala. Nope.
Young Tyson Fury. If 37 y/o feather fisted SS Cunningham can drop and hurt Fury it stands to reason that a massive puncher like Earnie could go one better. Boxing might not work that way always but whatever. I’m putting it out there and waiting to be proven wrong!
Shavers has the potential to pole-axe anyone, but that does not mean it would be likely a skilled boxer would not avoid it & stop him first.
Don Turner discusses Floyd Mayweather, Rocky Marciano & more (FULL INTERVIEW) - YouTube He would knw more than you or I
Cunningham was too long in the game. He in his prime had more 1 punch power than prime Usyk and Usyk is accused as being pillow fisted because this: despite he had finished in distance 9 pro boxers in row, he didn't had managed to stop prime Glowacki. I don't talk about ghost Glowacki after beatup from Briedis and long ring rust period. I talk about younger Glowacki version, who despite get impressive beatup from prime Huck managed to stop him in distance. Also Usyk appeared enough hard punching to stop Huck in distance ( yeah, ofc after his stoppage loss vs Glowacki and moderate beting from Briedis and him tortured in clinch instead of success in clinch vs Briedis ). Also Usyk had finished Bellew in distance and only noobs think that he had in mind to get them till cards. Okey, he also didn't had finished Gassiev in his prime and prime Hunter version and also barely won vs prime Briedis. Damn, to demand stop prime Briedis while even Wlad and Vital didn't had even dropped this guy in sparring and they had sparred damn a lot and hard. So, if in prime shape vs prime, I think if properly landed Cunningham hit harder than prime Usyk. Usyk isn't in prime after fights vs Briedis and Gassiev anymore.
