Wasn't any attempt to tear down Tyson's opponents.

I'm just more familiar with 80s and early 90s heavyweights than with other eras.

Tyrell Biggs barely got past some tough journeymen. He had life-and-death struggles with crude banger Jeff Sims and a fat losing streak David Bey. This was Biggs' PRIME. He was brave as hell but not cut out for using his skills against ROUGH PROFESSIONALS.

Tony Tubbs was also more comfortable against boxers than brutal roughhouse punchers. Tubbs was good but he had crap power. Tubbs never beat many good fighters, never faced many truly dangerous ones. Lionel Butler blasted him out in 1 round. I dont see how pitty-pat Tubbs will survive against Galento. I'm imagining this is Galento and Tubbs both in their "best fighting shape" and motivated in a 10,12 or 15 rounder.Tubbs would get KO'd' in my opinion. But of those I mentioned he would stand the best chance of proving me wrong.

Carl Williams was open to the left hook and had a weak chin. The best puncher he beat was Bert Cooper, who was doing cocaine and slacking on the training, lacking desire.
Jesse Ferguson had Williams almost out. Galento would knock him out.

Bruce Seldon had no chin, sooner or later Galento gets to it and its all over.

Tony Galento was a legitimate contender in his day.He hit like a truck, was aggressive, and scared many "civilized" boxers with his rough-house style.
Forget the Galento media image. He was no joke when that bell rang.

lets face it, sanders was nothing more than a flabby old out of shape golfer who had horrible punching technique and sloppiness remeniscint of bareknuckle fighters. Sure sanders had power, so did galento!!

carl truth williams was one of the finest superheavyweights i have ever seen on film, his boxing skills and jab were impeccabile.

some of those fights you mentioned up top were when he was over the hill

How about Roy Jones vs Galento in a showdown of the
    "six pack stomachs".

    Jones abs vs Galento's "stomach".

Roy would be "chicken dancing" all over the ring, pot shotting
Tony, while Tony would be staulking with that weird left hook
    cocked.

And with Roy's Middleweight grade chin...if Roy stops
laughing too long....it would only take one Galento left hook.

Good point. Put that way, I agree they may have a chance. While awful, I doubt Galento could beat four men at the same time (even such mediocre jokes as that lot).

Tubbs was past his best against Butler, yes, but Butler was not as good as Galento.

You claim that Tubbs was over-the-hill against Bowe, but what was Tubbs doing in his prime ?

The Tubbs-Witherspoon fight was HORRIBLE, neither fighter deserves any praise for that one. Both of them were in horrible shape, and they sucked big time.

    Was Tubbs-Page any good ?

Tubbs outboxes Smith, but Galento was a far more UNORTHODOX puncher to deal with.
Galento crouches low, can do all sorts of stuff (legal and illegal) in the clinches, and was a battler to the end. Galento was often out of shape, but had proven stamina. He's an awkward ******* to fight, and he knocked loads of men out. He was tough as old boots.
Tubbs was a fancy dan with fast hands, a few flashy moves but no power. He was suited to fighting stand-up boxers, who fought in a civilized fashion. Most of the names he beat were as badly out of shape as the WORST version of Galento, and lacked any bad intentions.

Tubbs may be technically the "better boxer" but that counts for nothing when a freakin' animal is mauling you in a clinch and hitting you with sledgehammer blows.

Galento's power was AWESOME, he knocked guys out of the ring, he knocked out some massive men. He hit like a train and he was rough and tough with it.

Ron Lipton mentioned on another site how an old retired diabetic 50-something Galento hitting the heavy bag was among the hardest punching he could remember seeing. And Lipton's seen a few heavy hitters.

Galento was a very mediocre joyrneyman with almost no skills. David Tua was a dangerous contender with decent defensive skills, and with much harder punch (he doesn't need to swing his left hook wildly like Galento does to generate power for 1-punch KO).

No, Carl Williams was in his prime when he was left hooked to the canvas a couple of times against Jesse Ferguson.

Carl Williams was also in his prime against Bert Cooper, but this was one of Williams best wins and it is the best reason to imagine that Williams COULD beat Galento.
But I think that Galento had more bad intentions and aggression, than Bert Cooper had that night. I also think Galento was better with the LEFT HOOK, and that's why I reckon he'd beat Williams. He'd' land the left hook.

Tubbs beat a Greg Page who was disinterested and out of shape. He also was floored by Clarence Hill.Good fighter, but not all the intangibles were there.

    Interesting.
I'm not sure Galento would beat Wladimir Klitschko but he'd surely put up a better callenge that David Haye.

Wlad would possibly just jab and grab his way to victory. Galento might end up getting DQ'd.

In some ways he was better. In other ways, not as good.
Wlad would definitely beat Tua. Remember Tua's horrible effort against Lewis ?
