I think Pavlik is a good shout for this thread. Look at his fight with B-Hop, his pale ropey body makes Hopkins look like 50 Cent.
Have to tell you, D, right before the McCline fight, up-close Toney looked a mountain of muscle below the padded surface.
It's MY account, D, from spending weeks with JT training for McCline. James may have looked like a melted candle in pix, but up-close he was a tank, thick muscles under the folds of flesh.
Yeah, Toney always struck me as a powerfully built dude when he was an elite HW. He was carrying extra weight but was built like a brick shithouse nonetheless.
I believe Toney was on anabolics to recoup from an injury, in his own words. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for the actual thread topic... Hmm. I hope I'm remembering correctly but Kostya Tszyu wasn't ripped to shreds. But he may have been the strongest 140 pounder of all time, he threw around his opposition in the ring like they were rag dolls. Supposedly he put up double his bodyweight and then some in the gym. Jirov certainly looked like an everyman at times, but he was one of the best CW's of recent years. This content is protected
Ruslan Chagaev. One of the most accomplished amateurs in decades, but very much a average mans body. I've heard some say he should drop to CW, though I'm not sure how wise that would have been. This content is protected
Late prime Jerry Quarry...'72-'75. Tito had a misleading physique although I wouldn't necessarily classify it as "bad". He just didn't look that powerful. Looks can certainly be misleading... Old version of George Foreman would be an obvious example.
I wouldn't call him one of the 'best' fighters with an unimpressive physique, but Alexander Povetkin seems a decent quality contender. This content is protected
