It's not Ali, in the way that it's not overly stylish. That confuses the causal.

    Mayweather's footwork is the following

    Calculated
    with Purpose
    Conservative
    Educated
    Effective
    Pre-meditated
    Efficient
    Elegant

That's how I always wanted to move. It's how I tried to teach people to move. Andre Ward is another brilliant example.

Footwork is the least appreciated aspect in boxing. Everything starts with balance, the ability to throw a shot, defend against a shot, and move in any direction.

I always pay attention to footwork during a fight, but really focus in on it when I watch a replay. I love how an Andre Ward or JMM can make a very small foot adjustment to stay in the pocket hit, and not take flush shots.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing.

I agree. This video is more showing the most stylish footwork, rather than the best.

Too many guys either don't train in a proper gym, or head straight to the heavy bag.

My instructor (albeit in Kenpo) would have us assume a fighting pose, then walk around and give us little pushes in various directions. If you fell, or moved more than a few inches, you did pushups or worse. Over time, this evolved to throwing various kicks and punches for us to slip or block.

To this day, when I get ready to hit a bag or shadow box, I can remember those lessons clearly.

    cool video

Less is often more when it comes to footwork. Some jackAZZes actually think Joe Louis had no footwork just because he only moved when there was reason to.

That video is all boxers. Where are the swarmers? Cutting off the ring is a skill in itself that many elite offense minded fighters today can't do

the video isn't meant for instructional or technical reasons. It's mostly for the flash and aesthetic reasons

That little feint Ward did to set himself in a position to score the first knockdown against Dawson was amazing. To do that, remain balanced and score a knockdown was brilliant, and I thought so when I was watching it live. One of those things that make you sit back and really appreciate how technically brilliant this guy is.
