I know Harry beat Tunney but that was at light heavy wasn't it and then Gene beat him several times in return?

In heavyweight history and based on his record I can see Greb doing well against Burns, Sharkey, Braddock level fighters. Also Carnera who while huge seemed extremely mediocre if brave.

I imagine he can outwork a slower fighter and if Billy Conn did well against Louis then perhaps Greb could until Joe caught up with him, as he did with Billy.

Possible he could be competitive against smaller guys like Charles, a former light heavyweight, and Patterson.

Can't see him having much luck against Liston and totally bamboozled by Ali. Young George would just walk through him surely?

I feel as we get into the 80s the guys just start getting too big. Holmes would just hang him on his jab all night but Greb could do well against the contenders of the era if not the champs. Guys like Page and Tubbs are canny fighters as well as being much bigger so if they are on it will win.

Tyson and Holy are just too strong despite being on the smaller side although we do have Evander's loss to Toney to take into account, but the Evander of the Bowe 2 and Tyson fights is too strong?

Then we enter the superheavyweight era and while deathly slow they are far too big and strong. Tyson Fury leaning on him all night would break even Greb. He may have a chance against someone like Valuev however.

Just my 2 pence worth, I am sure deeper Greb scholars can correct me!

Tommy KO's Greb without even breaking a sweat.
Old Foreman was slow as ****, but even so, all he needs is 1 punch and given that he wouldn't probably even flinch at Greb's punches, Foreman can afford to receive 10 in order to land 1.

Greb is small, so 1 punch vs him is not the same as 1 punch vs a HW.

    Such mystique!

Even to our very day, the great and mighty Greb-in-the-ring controversy continues. What was he like? What modern fighters would be closest to his style? How would his opponent size effect the fight?

How did he manage to beat all those ATGs, especially with all those disadvantages? Blind in one eye for the last 5 years of his career?

The dude is a legend but they have their obvious limits. To seriously picture him in the ring with someone like a Fury sized fighter, borders on a keystone cops film lol.

forget the 'mostly' crap S-HW Giants, just normal size HWs up to 6'3" or so, Top HW's, he has very little chance, if any.

Holyfield would send him flying out of the ring. 10 out of 10 times.

It's always a fun discussion but a start is what fighters gave him trouble and it's not huge slower guys but compact, strong, hard hitting fast guys like a Norfolk or a Tiger ... he may have a lot more trouble with a Floyd Patterson than a Jess Willard ... I'm from the school that believes Dempsey takes him and so would Louis and most of the others but it's to his credit that he is mentioned in this mix when almost no other middleweight is ..

Greb was either very hard to hit or had a helluva chin. He fought all kinds of punchers, including powerpuncher Bill Brennan 5 times, and was only properly stopped once very early in his long career.

Bill Brennan ain't punching anywhere near as hard as Morrison or Foreman.

Perhaps, but I am not picking him over them. (And Morrison never KO'd anyone who was that good anyways). Brennan waxed 49 of his 60 opponents, that includes losing to Greb 5 times and Dempsey twice. He could punch a bit.
