I just don't see Usyk having any answers for him. Not after what Duboise did to him. Imagine Frazier landing a body hook on that soft belly
The comeback version of Sonny Liston from the late 60s. I dont think he would have enough zip to beat Smokin Joe when he was on the rise or peak.
He wouldn't chew him out but he'd beat Holmes for mine. He'd beat Usyk too IMO but Holmes is obviously a greater heavyweight than Usyk so it's Larry for me.
Agree--Liston (of late 50's early 60's vintage) and Foreman had poleaxe left jabs with a significant advantage in reach which would keep Frazier at distance. They each possessed powerful uppercuts that are tailor made for Joe to walk into. Ultimately Frazier would encounter the same issues with Sonny Liston that he did with Foreman. As far as Tyson--he could've certainly defeated Joe but he'd have to stop him within 5 rounds-otherwise no chance!!
Bowe way to open to deal with Frazier imo. His habit of looping the right, will also invite many opportunities for that hook.
Bowe would have dealt with Frazier fairly similar to Foreman IMO. Bowe was quite big and super skilled especially on the inside and his uppercuts which basically knocked Frazier out.
Do you think that many people consider your opinion that Joe will beat anyone on the night of March 8, 1971 to be good, and can you name the best representatives of this opinion, please?
Realistically, Frazier was a nightmare for certain styles but also pretty limited outside his best range. The guys he would "chew up" are the ones who couldn't keep him at distance, didn’t have the legs to move for 12+ rounds, or didn’t have enough firepower to back him up. Best names he beats cleanly? Guys like Jerry Quarry, who he already beat convincingly, and probably someone like Ron Lyle too. Lyle was tough and strong, but too upright, too methodical, and not busy enough to keep Frazier off. Earnie Shavers would be dangerous early but doesn’t have the stamina, chin, or survival skills to go deep against Frazier’s constant pressure. He could probably also beat someone like Michael Moorer. Moorer had the skills but he was hittable and mentally fragile under real pressure, a perfect setup for Frazier’s style to overwhelm him. But if you’re talking about the absolute elite level heavyweights, bigger, mobile, heavy jabbers or big punchers with durability, Frazier starts running into serious problems. He’s not walking through Lennox Lewis, not beating a peak Bowe (too much size and inside skill combined), and guys like Holmes and Ali (even pre-prime Ali) always had the tools to neutralise his attack with distance and movement. Peak Frazier was devastating in a very specific lane: mid-range wars against guys who stood too much or didn’t hit hard enough to make him respect them. So yeah, Frazier chews up a lot of good contenders and some fringe-level champions, but against true super-heavyweight monsters with discipline and size, it's a bad stylistic matchup for him.
