I was looking at his record a few decades back , the old lads up my local drinking club ( all gone now ) we're absolute boxing fanatics and they all swore he beat Joe Louis but they didn't have the luxury of being able to go down an Internet rabbit hole and read in depth about it , I came away iirc thinking Joe did enough to win , I think the ref had it 13-2 to Joe though which wasn't even close .

I was thinking razor ruddock also .. Tyson finished him and respect to Donovan for not ducking anybody !!! He didn’t have to fight Lewis he was already ranked 1 by wbc .. he could have waited for the title shot ..

Povetkin held the same WBA regular title that Dubois later held. Both went on to fight the WBA Super Champions in Klitschko and Usyk respectively and were beaten. Whether it was a real worthy title or not, the names throughout Povetkin’s resume are insane.. fought everyone he could.

Not for any major world title of his day.

The Truth. Excellent boxer with superb jab . Unlucky to be around with Holmes and Tyson. RIP

I said technically. WBO is a major title now, so I think it counts for something

Not the best maybe but Gerry Cooney deserves a mention ( one of the hardest left hook ever )

Yes but that doesn't retroactive make it a major title from the day the organization was founded.

No, but it existed and atp it's major. Mercer was a WBO world champ in the record books, even though it didn't have the status and recognition it does now.
