Joe Erskine would have beaten some of those listed.

Tommy Farr is turning in his grave right now.

Farr is arguably No.1 among them...

He would physically dominate Farr and Cooper and as he showed against Bugner, the demon of nervous energy as the fight goes on, is not an issue with Joe. Aussie Joe would not be interested in setting the pace that would be required to beat Frank.

I think we have to start with what happened in the real world, and that is that Farr and Bugner built significantly better records.

Indeed; we saw Frank beat Bugner comprehensively. A Bugner motivated and as good anything seen this side of Frazier.

We also saw Bruno dominate small fighters. He was a classic bully, petrified of a fighter with an aura (Tyson); and lacking the confidence to compete confident fighters. Look how desperate he was to fight Spinks in 85/86; even when it looked like he might be fighting Tubbs rather than Witherspoon. He really fancied beating the small man. He would lick his lips if he saw 'enry or Tommy the other side of the ring.

I am sure Farr would of not been scared of Tyson, but he would have been stopped. Same with Lewis.

As for Bugner against Bruno; I think you are revising history a bit there. Bugner was in good nick, coming off looking particularly good beating a Page, who Bruno decided not to fight the year before. Bugner was a lot better mentally than the Joe of the earlier 80s, a lot more relaxed and confident. He was a live underdog, as Terry Marsh will testify to.

    I would change the wording...

I think most would agree Bugner's best bout was the Frazier fight in what 73?

Tommy Farr lost or drew with:

    Kid Denham
    Alby Davies (2 losses)
Evan Lane (4 losses and a draw)
    Jack Moody
    Cliff Smith
    D. Flowers
Young Grocutt (loss and a draw)
    Young Baldock
    Len Jones
    Kid Spurdle
    Idris Pugh
    Trevor Herbert
    Billy Richard
    Llew Haydn
    Walter Saunders
    Josh Sullivan
    Bryn Powell
    Chris Shea
    Albert Donovan
    Tiger Ellis
    Billy Thomas
    Eddie Steele
    Ernie Simmons (loss and draw)
    Eddie Phillips (three losses)
    Jack “Kid” Casey
    Charlie Berlanger
    Dave Carstens
    Frank Moody
    Jim Wilde
    Joe Louis
    Jim Braddock
    Max Baer
    Lou Nova
    Red Burman
    Lloyd Marshall
    Frank Bell
    Al Hoosman
    Werner Weigand
    Don ****ell

Hell, Evan Lane made a living in the 1920s beating Tommy Farr over and over and over and over again.

Tommy Farr wasn’t the number-one anything.

He beat a couple of notables (and also lost to a few he beat in rematches) and he lost TO EVERYONE else, too.

He won a little more than half the fights he competed in.
