Way to often in the cloud of popularity many forget Douglas .He had a sharp strong accurate Jab,one that had Holmes like accuracy combined with Bowe like technique. I put him in top 5 spot and one could argue where it should place,a jab shot straight through the shoulder for maximum impact, and stepping into it. Very few had the ability to use the jab as a power punch capable of knocking opponents down or out .Ones that come to mind....
    Mike Tyson / Lewis/ Liston / W. klitchko /Foreman / Morrison...any others?

Prime Holmes, quick and powerful (possibly best in history at heavy) prime Ali not as hard as Holmes, but faster. Liston, slower but had the force of a lot of fighters powershots. T.Witherspoon, P. Thomas, G.Page,B.Douglas all had excellent jabs. But there lackadaisical attitudes cost them at least in my eyes. Prime Tyson, had the timing and anticipation to out jab much taller men. L.Lewis very powerful jab. But he also could be lackadaisical at key moments in big fights. R.Bowe, also could dominant with and off the jab. But again, lackadaisical, half ass training. But the top 3, at least in my eyes, was Holmes,Ali, and Liston. In that order in their primes...

Agree. Some may forget how great Ali`s jab was because he had so many other great assets. His footwork and blazing combinations. Ali`s jab was the quickest and he also had some pop on it.

A lot of people forget, but Ray Mercer in his prime had a great left jab. Ask Lennox Lewis. :)

Douglas gets left out more so than forgotten because of his overall resume. He had a superb jab but he didn't get enough done to get him right up there.

A lot of people claiming it's "not even close" in favour of their man.

It's a difficult and complicated question, but I do feel very strongly that "not even close" shouldn't be a part of the answer.

I recently rewatched the first Ali-Quarry fight. I couldn't believe how quick Ali's jab was in that fight, it was cobra-like.
Ali looked fantastic in that fight especially considering he hadn't fought in 3 and a half years and was in against a top contender.

Ali will get most votes but one of his sparring partners that became a great HW himself Larry Holmes he used it to really push the opponent onto the back foot, not a lazy defensive jab, aggressive how a jab should be utilized.

Lennox Lewis had a great jab but could be lazy with it at times,Frank Bruno had a fantastic jab, ramrod hard the one facet of his game that is seriously underrated other than the usual names that get mentioned.
