Hard jabs are a dime a dozen. Ali's jab was the best because of the style and incredible speed behind that jab. Ali's side to side movement made his jab a very difficult weapon to defend against. That's prime Ali.

Holmes was ALWAYS open for right hand counters. He just rarely fought anyone with the skill to capitalize upon it. Sharpshooters such as Dempsey, Louis, and Tyson would catch Holmes with rights that would end the fight.

This is the question. How does it/the fare against a much higher level of competition to what he faced? Sharpshooters like Louis, blistering speed like Tyson, swarmers like Frazier etc. It's a fascinating thought and not cut or dried any which way.

When Liston decided to really use his jab it was devastating. One of his opponents said "Liston could hit you with his jab from the other side of the ring".

On film you can see Sonny covering the distance of the ring with two jabs.

And Wlad landed 39% of his jabs against Byrd.

And my post was aimed at you saying Wlad wouldn't be able to land his jab on Holyfield.
Everybody landed their jab on Holyfield, and so many with tremendous connect percentages.

Landed his jab quite easily on Tyson.

And his performance against Tucker was really good, his jab destroyed Tony's puffy face.

whoopty doo. Byrd was on his last legs in that rematch and he never even had any legs to begin with.. Do you actually remember that fight?
Watch it again. Byrd was stood right centre of the ring catching punches on his face. Thats exactly how it played out. Im not exaggerating.
And it still took Wlad two rounds longer than Ike to dispatch of him. it took Ike less time SEVEN years earlier . :confundio1:

Why would he? His jabbing rate was shown to be terrible against a slew of cans during the worst HW era known to man.
