Jeffries and Louis started knocking over the top guys in the division earliest in their careers, for whatever thats worth.

Yeah. That's tough to account for. But he would still be a 'big' guy in many eras.

Tyson is a strong candidate: his only "weakness" was not knocking his man out in Tillis. The bar was always raised higher for Tyson; he was that dominant.

He was never fatigued, floored, kayoed, stopped, as occurred with Foreman, Clay, Louis, Frazier, Holmes, Dempsey, Johnson.

Get Vitali and Bowe off that list and maybe it will be taken seriously.

Foreman was staggering around with fatigue at the end of Peralta I.

The other greats on my list were the ones who suffered the knockdowns and knockouts I mention, pre-prime.

Again, Tyson never experienced these calamities. The worst thing that could be said about him was he lost a few rounds. Definitely one of the very greatest runs for the title, including the crushing dismantling of the champion himself, Berbick.

Please don't take offense to this quesiton but, are you a Tyson guy that has to put down other fighters to make him look good? Because in a subtle way that is exactly what is going on.

Isn't it obvious that Tyson in his early career was fighting bums up until Tillis who really wasn't all that to begin with. I don't hold that against Tyson mind you. All great fighters have padded records. Some a little less than other. The elite of the elite has even less pads but they are there. Please don't act like those other fighters would have had any problems with anyone Tyson faced up until maybe Ruddick or Holyfield and Lennox. Because every one else would have taken care of by the other fighters you mentioned including Douglas.

He didn't do it as a HW, but Ezzard Charles decisioned ATG HOFers Teddy Yarosz [in his 19th fight] and Charley Burley 2X when he was a 20 year old MW. Between those opponents, he also became the first man to knock out recently dethroned LHW Champion Anton Christoforidis. [Nobody else would stop Christoforidis until his postwar career ending losses in late 1946 and early 1947. Belloise and Raadick needed ten and eight rounds respectively to do that. Ezz took just three barely a month after Pearl Harbor.]

No worries at all! I'm a proud Tyson fan because he was the most impressively devastating heavyweight I have ever seen. And that includes all the 'roiders. Period.

Sure, his record was padded, but it was the way he destroyed those bums that made people take notice. When he dismantled Berbick, he proved he was for real. When he vaporized Larry Holmes and unified the belts and killed off Michael Spinks in 91 seconds, he served notice one of the best ever had arrived.

Comparing is not putting down. Just, for my money, "green" Tyson was more impressive than all those other "green" greats.

What about Holyfield's first 6 HW fights though?

KO5 Tillis -had lasted the 10 round distance vs. Tyson in 1985

KO7 Thomas -was stopped in 6 rounds by Tyson in his previous fight

KO10 Dokes -was ranked as high as #4 and would have fought Tyson had he beat Holyfield

KO2 Rodrigues -good boxer who was later stopped in 2 by Foreman but was usually a tough fighter

    KO8 Stewart -was 24-0 (24)

    KO4 McDonagh -who really cares
