Curry: I want to face Hagler!

Leonard: No, you don't want to face Hagler.

Curry: No, I don't want to face Hagler.

Ray Leonard was the Derren Brown of his day.

yes. Curry was the hottest thing around while Hagler was a dinosaur

facing Hagler wouldve been safer than McCallum OR Honeyghan

You are saying this in retrospect rather than from 1986 viewpoint. Although, we now know Honeyghan and McCallum beat Curry in less than a year's time. To be honest, both Hagler and Curry in 1986 were overrated. Curry overrated in that he was not as great as we all thought he was, and Hagler was inactive and tired of boxing.

He was amazed how Duran got him to fight his fight in June 1980, so he thought he would try that with other guys. It didn't work that often for him. It did with Hagler, but I think Hagler was more affected by Ray not fighting for years. He thought he would have an easy fight, which is why he came out right handed (I think). With Hearns it didn't work. Hearns actually got to Ray by saying Ray was on steroids in the rematch. Ray was really bothered by that.

I'm saying it from a 1984 retrospect in World Boxing which was directed to Larry Holmes and Marvin

the writer MAY have been Jeff Ryan. all we had back then was World Boxing, KO, & Ring. It sucked having to read the same stale opinions

but in 1986, I'm willing to bet Curry had more left than Marvin. I dont think Marvin could have laid Curry out

not when it comes to Leonard. He fell for it, so he felt it was powerful. Yet he was not that great at it since he is not that strong mentally. Out of the fab 4 he could not handle a long career like Hearns,Hagler or Duran did.

Marvin was tired then of boxing. I think the Hearns fight was his last real effort and he wanted to prove something and he did. Against Mugabi he looked flat and rusty. So that could be. But I don't think Curry was that great either. He lost to Honeyghan and McCallum without 10 months of each other, and had two DQ fights between those two fights. Marvin should have retired after Hearns, but he wanted to fight Ray..

I love those magazines. I should post a picture of my magazines all stacked up a few years ago. I loved reading them.

Hearns never needed steroids he punched hard no matter what. Tommy was an honest guy who never used catchweights to cheat to get two titles in one night.

Ray`s body did look very bulky at super middle, he just didn`t look or move natural at that weight at all.

Hearns height made it easier for him to put on that kind of weight than Ray.

It is strange how Hearns body was more defined at 175 when he fought Andries compared to his rematch v Ray at 168 and his two world title fights in `91 at 175.

Ryan out loud, but take my advise don`t post anything from 1996, I bored the hell out of everyone posting the top 50 fighters of the last 50 years from a special edition of the ring magazine from that year each day.
