Cruiserweight: EVANDER HOLYFIELD, 1986 Super-Middleweight: ROY JONES JR, 1996 Light-Middleweight: THOMAS HEARNS, 1982 Light-Welterweight: AARON PRYOR, 1982 Junior-Lightweight: ALEXIS ARGUELLO, 1979 Junior-Featherweight: WILFREDO GOMEZ, 1978 Junior-Bantamweight: KHAOSAI GALAXY, 1984 Junior-Flyweight: MICHAEL CARBAJAL, 1993 Strawweight: RICARDO LOPEZ, 1993 Opinions?
Its hard to put a strong arguement against any of your choices, I personally would change 1 of them...... Light-welterweight: JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ, 1992
Definitely a valid disagreement. I do think the Pryor that beat Arguello would've beaten Chavez though. He wouldn't have capitulated like Meldrick Taylor, Pryor was too tough for that. Good shout tho.
Khaosai Galaxy would rank no higher than 6th at JBW for me. I have to assume the fascination with this guy is due to a lack of knowledge of the lower weights. And that's not only to you PACFAN, that goes for almost everyone who posts about Galaxy or the lower weight classes. Galaxy not only has a pitiful resume, but he was clearly nowhere near as skilled as the likes of Watanabe, Konadu, Roman, Mijares, Tapia, or even another slugger like Moon. His resume is not as good as any of these fighters either. His power was really the only thing he had going for him, which suited him well enough given the poor competition he faced, all in his mainland. Otherwise, I wouldn't rate Carbajal that high at 108 either, reserving that spot for Jung-Koo Chang, a much better fighter in my opinion. I don't think Carbajal was that special, considering the wars he had with another fighter I don't rate too highly in Gonzalez. Both were good, not great. Not as good as Chang, Zapata, etc. Lopez would've beaten both as well. Hell, Sorjaturong took Gonzalez out and Lopez made him look like just another bum.
I bow to your superior knowledge of the lower weights, I know very little about most of the fighters you just mentioned. Do you agree with the rest though? And would you have Pryor or Chavez?
I'd say I agree with the rest, though I don't think the 140 division is as simple as Pryor vs Chavez(though I usually rate Pryor #1 there). Guys like Duilio Loi, Carlos Ortiz(though he is normally placed at LW), Antonio Cervantes, Jack "Kid" Berg, and others I'm forgetting right now all deserve consideration. I think 140 is one of the most overlooked divisions, but I'd choose Pryor.
Ive no probs with Pryor having top spot, I believe its between he & Chavez... they are the top 2 IMHO. I agree that Pryor was tougher, much tougher than Taylor but I dont see Pryor building anywhere near as big a lead as Taylor did, Taylor was faster & had slicker skills than Pryor so I see another Arguello Pryor type fight between the 82 Pryor that beat AA & the 92 Chavez that beat Camacho except I dont expect Chavez to crumble, I think his body work & punch accuracy, not to mention his defence pulls out the decision in the late rds vs Pryor. :thumbsup
