Kessler's jab is not even a power jab. Its to score and set up his money shot in his right hand...:rofl Pavlik/Cotto/ODH have power jabs that have a thudding affect.
i love pavlik's jab,he is so tall and rangy against usual mw oppostion, with this he just uses it to stalk an opponent putting them into a position where he can unleash the big right.however,i see this as due to a lack of technically efficient boxers (or smart enough) at mw who cant get around it.credit must go to him though,it is a weapon he uses very effectively.
I'm gonna say Wladimir and I'm basing it not only on its effectiveness but also its importance to his fightplan. Not to mention the fact that it's basically a power punch.
PBF, Oscar, Wink, Wlad all have great jabs. Wlad makes the most use out of the punch though, he will jab you all night before laying down the right.. I just wish he used that right like he used too before getting KTFO, as his double jab then right hand over the top is a thing of beauty, it's just he's too much a ***** to actually toss it too often.
Not true. I see Kesslers jab as a very solid power jab up there with Wlad's. Beyer is stunned by the jab and I think it did some damage: [YT]<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vqP7-9kYE5s&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vqP7-9kYE5s&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>[/YT]
This is actually Joe Calzaghe by an absolute mile. He lands literally hundreds on his jab on opponents, without leaving himself exposed (he ocassionally does with other punches, not the jab though). Kessler only managed to land back 20% of his jabs. Calzaghe's jab isn't a KO punch, but it hurts. It snaps back the head of his opponent as well as anyones jab. Calzaghe has the complete jab. Winky's shouldn't be metioned in this thread. He has beaten opponents one handed. Joe Calzaghe has the best jab in the world, nobody can mention anyone in world boxing today who comes close to it. Sure a few people have more powerful jabs, but overall those fighters jabs lack the versatillity and overall effectiveness of Calzaghes.
Apart from the "absolute mile" part, im afraid he's right ladies and gentlemen. What comes after the jab tends to be suspect sometimes though
Oscar doesn't come into this these days. Kessler outjabbed by Calzaghe. Winky a bit of a myth, Cotto nicely timed and accurate enough but slower and more predictable than Calzaghe's. Wlads is decent compared to the other heavyweights out there.
Floys doesn't come into thisn whilst Calzaghe is still fighting. He is reliant on his right hand. Also Floyd is far less mobile than Calzaghe whilst jabbing.
Whilst Pavliks jab is fundementally sound, you cannot seriously list him when Calzaghe jabs at around twice the velocity and can treble up his superior jab.
