Chavez was a beast at this weight while he could still make it comfortably.Much better than he was in his higher profile 140 days.

He should have spent a few more yrs at 135 IMO, that weight was perfect for him & he would rank right alongside guys like Duran & Whitaker, look at his form & consistency in the weight above where he was slower & not as sharp, he was arguably the best ever at 140 so 135 would have been a brilliant weight for him to remain at, Im not sure if he moved up due to ambition or being unable to make 135 but while he was still PRIME at 140 lbs, he definitely left his PEAK at 135 lbs.

I don't think it's really that close either. One of the close but clear variety IMO. I wouldn't argue with someone who had them in the same tier or such like, but for me Arguello has a clearly better resume and similar accomplishments, so he has to be ranked higher. In terms of ability, there's not much in it between them.

    nae doubt

yeh its pretty much how i see it, very very close.

I think Arguello has the better wins in Escalara than anythign JCC had

Saddler and Arguello are right up there, as is J C Superstar, but I would think Flash Elorde gets the nod over everyone.

Camacho beat nobody of consequence at the weight unless you think Limon had a whole lot left. Chavez would've beat the snot out of him at this weight too and I shudder too think what Armstrong or Saddler would've done to him. In fairness though, Camacho was very, very good before Rosario turned him yellow.

Alexis Arguello for me too. He was no joke at 130lbs. That said, Floyd would have given Alexis a hell of a lot of problems. To put it mildly.

There you go again naming the opposition when JC hadnt fought anyone of note. Comparing him to the guy on top of the same division JC is competing in.

You should know better than that. If I didnt know better, I'd swear you missed the decade in action while it happened.

somehow JC always managed to sidestep Hector while he grabbed all the glory.

FYI, both turned pro the same year. Both competed in the same divisions for but it was always JC that always seemed to lag behind him, letting Hector move ahead of him in championship fights, staying in the shadows while Hector shined, and dominating two divisions.

Chavez was the invisible man by comparison. That's how bright Hector shined in his heyday. Chavez couldnt make any bold career moves knowing that Hector was on top of the divison he fought in. EVEYBODY knew if they wanted to have a career they'd better stay away from Hector-or else.

Boxers, punchers, it didnt matter; Hector was always the one on top and always the one to beat except that eveyrone knew they couldnt beat him. Hector would issue the challenge himself but no one would accept.

The way I see it, the slower Hector walked, the slower JC chased him. You know how I hate to name names but JC would much rather take on the Refugio Rojas' of the world than someone that really counted at the time like Hector.

People like Lonnie Smith 6 years after winning a title. :patsch

Freddie Pendleton, Pratchett, Castillo, people on that level, while Hector took care of the mans work

Speaking of Limon, I find that JC also faced the same man, only another five years after Hector finished with him.:oops:
