The hall of fame nominations got me thinking about this question. I struggle to rate them in history as I have only made lists for the eight Original Gangsta weight classes. But who is the best Light Heavy from history that either of these guys could have beaten? Who climbs higher up the tree of heavier men?
I always picked Eubank to beat RJJ at 168 so I will take him to beat RJJ at 175, but Eubank didn’t move up as well as RJJ did...so my bias may not even convince me this time. Benn might have a chance at stopping Hearns...but not beating him on points
Prime Jones would have comfortably beaten Eubank and Benn at 160, 168 and 175. Eubank looked like he had the solid physique to carry 175 unlike Benn who I always thought as being a natural middleweight. A matchup between Eubank and fellow brit, Dennis Andries would have been a very interesting fight.
Eubank would've been unbelievable at light-heavy. He always killed himself to make super-middle. He beat Rocchigiani who was robbed against Maske and Michalczewski. And I always fancied Eubank's sneak counter right to beat Jones Jr's leaping left hook to the punch. Benn fought mostly light-heavies at super-middle anyway (Morgan, who had just been robbed against Tiozzo, and Malinga and Galvano and Piper and Gent, Giminez and Eubank - all massive) and struggled to get them over. It took him years to even grow into super-middle properly. Eubank boxes Andries ears off.
Bobby Czyz.. Said about Roldan when Roldan was going to fight Hearns, that Roldan quit against Hagler with a swollen eye.. That he would never do that.. then he quits a few days later. He talked a good talk and then sort of quit a lot of his tough fights.
