Could Hagler beat a good light heavyweight or is he just to small for the division?

Imagining say Eddie Mustafa Muhammad fighting the pretty short, lean Hagler seems just too far. Usually the top guys have top skills and in this instance it’s against a guy who is a sorta smaller middleweight against another elite with 15+lbs on him.

Hagler beat Hearns who was a lineal light heavyweight champ.

Not a chance in hell Hagler would beat Qawi.

I see a good argument for this, Qawi gives everyone hell, but knowing Marvin,he had a big potential of adapting in a rematch.

Hagler was a small Middleweight and probably would've made Jr Middleweight in the modern era someone like Devin Haney is the same size as Hagler now.

There's a reason Hagler didn't move up to Light Heavyweight when there was talk of it and that's simply because there was killers in the division at that time and he knew he was simply too small.

Qawi may be of similar height but he has much more mass you're also talking about one of the most dangerous H2H fighters in the Light Heavyweight division. It took Spinks who is a top 5 Light Heavyweight of all time fighting a perfect tactical fight to beat Qawi and he's much bigger than Hagler.

Qawi was often beating up guys alot taller than him he certainly wouldn't have an issue vs the much smaller Hagler he would run right through him and stop him.

I think Hagler could beat light-heavy version of Thomas Hearns.

I would also favour Hagler over Nathan Cleverly.

So either Hearns or Cleverly would be my answer.

Hagler is too small. Even with the same day weight ins he came in around 157 158.

Hagler is a natural MW and I don't believe he would beat any historically significant LHW.

Maybe Donny Lalonde if Marvin can avoid that right.

I know he had an iron chin, but that doesn’t mean he can take the best shots from a much bigger man. I think Lalonde hurt or knocked down basically everyone he ever fought with that lethal right.

Don't think Hagler or Monzon had boxer-puncher styles that were suited to retaining enough of what made them truly great to beat genuinely very good to great 175lbers. Certainly not consistently.

He could beat fighters on the level of Andries/Harding but I think we'd see him make surprisingly hard work of it.
