I have known Lou Duva most of my life. The last several boxing shows he did, I was his ring announcer. When he had his annual Lou Duva Roast, where the money went to several boxing gyms around Paterson, New Jersey, I was the MC. We had Tommy Hearns, Bert Sugar, Lou Albano, Bobby Czyz, among others attend. When Lou Albano died, I drove Lou Duva to his funeral. He didn't stop talking until we were about half way home, as he fell a slept.

We worked together many other times as well. We put up a Monument of Joe Louis, where he use to train in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. He got all the boxing people to come, including Jimmy Bivins, and I again was the MC. There were about 1,000 people that attended. Two days before that we unveiled the Rocky Marciano Stamp. The Marciano family asked me to run it and be the MC again. I had Lou Duva and Chuck Wepner come as guest speakers. We also put up another Statue of Lou Costello in Paterson.

In May, Lou turned 88 and he has slowed down a lot, But I still love to listen to him when he tells his stories.

The few times I've seen him in person he has always seemed like a pleasant, good natured man with a bad temper (I have no problems with people with bad tempers). Although this past June at the hall of fame induction weekend Lou needed more help than usual to get around. He needed a cane and the help of his daughter to get around. He was still in good spirits though, despite the cold, rainy weather.

My favorite Lou Duva moment, hands down, was during the Holmes-Holyfield fight. Lou kept yelling at Holmes for staying in Holyfield's corner during the fight, and when the bell ended (can't remember which) the round, Holmes just smiled and ruffled up Duva's hair, which pissed him off more than you can imagine. HAHA. Classic moment in boxing history.

wish him well, my dad is an old italian guy and lou reminds me of him.
