So if both men stepped in to the ring, on their best night, who would you say takes it.?

I like Buster, by decision. He definitely had the tool box to beat VK.

Douglas (Boxer Puncher) vs Vitali (boxer/brawler)

    Power: Vitali
    Speed: Douglas
    Technique: Douglas
    Chin: Vitali
    Defense: Douglas
    Footwork: Douglas
    Stamina: Vitali
    Ring IQ: Vitali
    Combinations: Douglas
    Versatility: Vitali
    Heart: Vitali

6-5 advantage Vitali. Really, really close fight.

I think at their best, Douglas has the chance of an upset. He has the superior jab, movement, and overall boxing ability. Vitali's occasionally leaky defense, stiff robotic movement, and lack of imagination could get him in trouble and he could drop many rounds. However, Douglas lacked in overall toughness and could be very inconsistent when Vitali was always disciplined and consistent. They're kind of opposites in a way. However Vitali wasn't just a brawler, he could box and win rounds and knew how to use his height to his advantage even if he couldn't outjab Douglas.

Conclusion: I think that Vitali is the slightly safer bet and could probably win a narrow decision with his high workrate, toughness, and awkward style. However, Douglas would be a live underdog and could still a win.

It's not a fight that can be compartmentalized like this, in the abstract.

Buster's best and only great performance was against an opponent where he could dictate range and catch him coming in or catch him out of his range. Neither are going to happen against Vitali who would lead the pitching from whatever range he chose. Vitali's ring intelligence and heart would fill in the rest and it would become a typical Vit wear-them-down performance, lopsided and mostly one way in terms of action.

On an average night Vitali, but on their best nights I’d go for Douglas.

In what way do you think Douglas would win; by knockout, on points, injury to Vitali, cut?
    Vitali wins.

I'd take Vitali against any Douglas, but Buster could well take this. In the short run up to Tyson he was one of the better boxer's the division had seen, with a great jab, good movement and quick hands. Not to mention having one of the most outrageous results in history.

Boxing isn't a game of top trumps and you omitted a key factor , Busters jab. It was a great one and much better than the one that buckled Vitali's knees by Lennox Lewis.
Tokyo Buster would not only beat Vitali but Lewis as well. That performance was one of the greatest ever. The fight would look exactly like Busters fight against Tucker where he was out boxing him easily. The difference is his conditioning. Toyka was in supreme condition so he wouldn't gas out.
Basically Tokyo Douglas was better than 03 Lewis in every way. How does this reality not make him the favorite

And yet Lewis stumbled forward and landed
-jabs with a 43% connect rate
    - total punches 46%
    -power punches 49%
All 3 categories are above the averge connect rate at HW

Is there any post of your thats ever based in reality?

What "great performances" did Vitali have? The Samuel Peter win? Chisora? Sanders? Which opponent did Vitali win where you can sit there in awe of Vitali, where he's firing on all cylinders, and you can confidently state he'd beat Douglas based on how he performed? Which fight...???

That's why I said on average Vitali should win since he was consistently good (over very mediocre competition) while Douglas was an inconsistent hot/cold fighter (over above average competition). I then clarified Douglas may be able to pull an upset at his best. Even the average version of Douglas is still faster, more technically sound, and has better fundamentals and combinations than Vitali and could give him trouble but probably doesn't win. What's the problem?

I literally talked about Douglas jab being a significant factor in my post.

I would say prime Tokyo Douglas vs Vitali is 50/50, maybe a smidgen in Douglas favor 55/45 but I wouldn't bet 1 cent. It's a very tough fight for both guys.

Hell no Douglas is not beating Lewis prime vs prime. Maybe he can catch an out of shape or old Lewis on an off night but the style clash favors Lewis.

Nothing on Vitalis resume tells me he could deal with skill , jabs and speed like this. . 03 Lewis was slow as a sloth and look what he was able to do. Vitali could very much beat an 88 , 89 and 91 Buster. Buster from Tokyo was on a different level

Vitali was comprehensive in his victories. I find comprehensive more impressive than flash in the pan dynamic. Plus, Douglas, even Tokyo Douglas, wasn't all that much. Sooner or later, that exact style matchup was going to topple Tyson. It just so happened on Buster's watch. Vitali at 75% beats Tokyo Douglas.

Vitali wasn't Five foot Eight with a 71 inch reach training on Gohnerea and cocaine.

An easy night for Vitali. An easy night for 03 Lennox.
