The best Marco Antonio Barrera existed between 1998-2002. I think as he moved up, he didn't look to be as fast because he wasn't throwing as many shots with the same mean intentions as he had when he was a little more reckless. He placed his shots better, but even in the Tapia sequences, you can see his handspeed is still superb. Marco was not really a lights out puncher even as a Super Bantamweight. Mckinney went down after 11 rounds of all out war, and the aging Salud weathered everything, despite being outclassed in every conceivably way. Marco was inch perfect against Jesus Salud, Enrique Sanchez, Naseem Hamed, and never looked more destructive than he did against Paul Llyod.
I live in Vegas, I get to see a lot of fights. That's still the best boxing night of my life. Everything just came together perfectly, the seats, the weather, my favorite fighter in a great performance... amazing.
Was the sense that Marco was back to his brilliant best? ...That combination that ended Ayala was just insane.
It was a pleasure to watch. He was technically damn near flawless, obviously enjoying himself, and I was close enough to see every detail. You know, I've probably met a hundred fighters ringside. I have Mike Katsidis' phone number, for ****'s sake, but I've never met Marco. It really pisses me off. My ex-gf ran into him at a ****ing Bebe's of all places, buying stuff for his kids. He signed her boob lol... but I've never gotten to meet the man.
A women with Barrera's signature on her boobs? ...Me too. She can't ever shower though...otherwise she's out the door.
Yeah she was a freak, a lotta fun. Too bad you can't turn off the crazy when you need to though. She also said that she was the only one in Bebe's who recognized him, and he was shocked that a 5'8 banging blonde came running up to him all excited lol... when he left, he got waylaid by some Mexican kids and ended up staying outside the store for about an hour talking to them and signing stuff etc. Apparently he's a hell of a nice guy outside the ring.
Im a morales guy myself, but i can def appreciate me some MAB...... that is some boxing at its finest
