Conventional wisdom is quick to point out the stamina and work rate of this little guy, but what about his countering? Defense? Combinations? Body work? He could do a little bit of everything, and I only had four fights to put this together but it's still good enough to properly represent Myung, who was dynamic and versatile in reality. It's amazing how little he gets hit with being so offensive-driven, and he's known for being feather-fisted, but he's hurting his opponents with both hands here. Double left hooks, lead right hands, liver shots. A joy to watch at times. He ain't no Pernell Whitaker when it comes to defense, he ain't no Ray Robinson when it came to combinations, he ain't no Chavez when it came to working the body, and he was no George Foreman when it came to power punching...but he could do everything well, and nobody at 108lbs would have had an easy time with him. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Cbr6ll05JA[/ame] Some observations from the video would be much appreciated, and I hope it doesn't seem I'm being overzealous. Just giving a little bit of credit to Yuh, a fighter 70% of this forum has never even heard of before. We can talk about the Ali's, Robinson's, and Whitaker's tomorrow.
He looks pretty good, nice variety of punches, always going from body to head.... a few nice fast counters too. I feel sorry for some of the lower weight guys, they dont get the exposure they deserve.
Outstanding effort Addie. Nice compilation and nice music selection too. Once you get more of Yuh I think you can make a super, super clip of him.
:good It's going to be epic mate. You wait. I've got 17 other fights in the post...I'm do a real good job on it. Watch this space. that was only with 4 fights and its not to bad.
Hi, first post here but a long time lurker. I love boxing but am no means a historian like some of you. Sure I have my opinions on certain fighters but I listen carefully to those who know much more than I. With that said, this is the reason I love this site so much. I find fighters who I may have never seen or heard of before complete with analysis and video footage. Awesome work Addie. I'm off to find more info on Woo Yuh.
Thanks mate. :good Welcome to ESB. I think it's well known by now that some of the most passionate and knowledgeable Boxing fans in existence post on these forums. If you consider yourself a student of the game, like I do, then you would really benefit from sticking around and gaining some knowledge off these guys. They truly know their ****. I had only been introduced to Myung-Woo Yuh myself not to long ago, and he's developed into one of my favorite fighters. Glad you enjoy the video, and I plan on uploading more of his full fights in the near future for you and others who don't know too much about him. Take care.
I happened to watch Yuh's fight with Oh Kon Son on the weekend. Great action fight with Yuh destroying Oh Kon with vicious left hook's to the body in the 7th.
:good Got that fight coming this week mate, look forward to seeing it. The left hook to the body seemed to be a staple to Yuh's offense. He showcased a brutal display of body punching against Tokushima, knocking him down 5 times en route to a TKO. Horribly one-sided.
Yep, he seems a very good allround fighter to me. He lacks true K.O power but was definitely a solid hitter. Durable, good enough defence to stand a chance against the offensive powerhouses around these weights, I can't imagine beating Pascual Perez or Harada at Fly though, whereas I'd give Chang a good shout against both of them. Yuh however, as you say Addie, is good enough at everything without being outstanding in any one field. I'm glad someone else has shown an interest in the fella, I think he's quality :good
Yeah he gave him a sound hiding in that one. I was surprised that was allowed to go past the third, given the beating Son took in the 2nd..getting those counts put on him and all. He showed a lot of ticker in there...but Yuh just plowed through him. Very good fight to showcase Yuh's ability IMO because he fights on the back foot and front foot at different times..and displays his great chin and workrate in the fight aswell.
This is what I tried to get across in the video. Yuh wasn't just a mauler, he could fight on the back foot and counter beautifully too. In addition to that fight which I can't wait to see, I think the Tokusima fight on youtube is a great showcase for Yuh. It's very slow in the first two rounds, and then just becomes horribly one sided, with 5 knockdowns being inflicted. The fight should have been stopped much earlier on, as Tokshima's corner came into the ring before the bell had sounded...a sustained beating would ensue when the referee turned a blind eye.
You and Yuh need a room Nah seriously you really rave about this guy who i had watched but never really considered in the detail you go into with him im definitly going to have to watch a few bits more of him
