Did Stone actually ever give his fighter advice? Y'know, like a trainer is supposed to? I guess John knew what to do already - hit & hold. "I never said nuthin' to the ref". Classic.
I dont think i have ever heard Stoney give instructions that would require any kind of real boxing skill knowledge or trainer technique. All I have ever heard him say are things like "Fight this mother****er!!!!!" and "The referee sucks!!!!!"
in regards to Borincano's comment-You my friend are full of ****. If you got in Stoney's face, he would have eaten you up and spit you out. He would NEVER let a punk nobody like yourself talk **** to him or get in his face. Especially in his house- The Somerville Boxing Club. What the hell have you accomplished? That's right- NOTHING. Stoney took a raw amateur to the pinnacle of the sport- The Heavyweight title. You should bow down to Stoney, you bum.
I would go as far as to say Stoney is one of the most entertaining characters in boxing in the last 20 years. Could anyone even argue this? What is Stoney doing these days? Was Ruiz the only fighter he "trained"? Let's do some research and find out more about this man. Where's he from? Remember when Toney laughed at him and called him a dumb redneck?
Hopefully you get a chance to read this since I did not think someone as smart as you would post such an intelligent response. I am full of it, a bum, and a punk. Wow, I grew up with the Ruiz family and Ruiz was taught by his stepfather until he no longer could. I never said I stepped to him. He is all show. It is to sell tickets. Just watch the videos the other posters put up when your not drinking. It shows Stoney laughing it up when nothing is funny just **** Toney off. He is not a bad individual and he surely loves Ruiz. If I were to step to him back in 1997, I doubt very much that he would physically harm me. I bow to no man, but if that is what you do? What have I accomplished? Besides getting in the ring, police academy, corrections, PI, a decent paying security manager position and a 19 year loving marriage and still looking like I am in my twenties and physically feeling like one, ahh, I'm just starting. The prior post was just an example of his temper. It was not there (temper) due to the guy being a real man. The class act comment was how far he goes with his rants. He is home laughing it up when he sees these videos and counting his money. I still believe he would have been a much better fighter with a more accomplished trainer. He could have co trained and been like the guy that worked for Ali....the guy that use to ryme and yell.
