Yeah, he definitely wasn't. But I'm saying he was still better than Nunn.

 

I disagree. 15 of Ray's 19 career losses came when he was competing at 160 or higher. Only a prime James Toney beat Nunn at 160 and he was losing badly when he caught Nunn in the 11th round. Look at some of the the names Robinson lost to at the end of his career.

That does not mean that I think Nunn was a better fighter than Ray. But I do believe he was a better Middleweight.

 

I just don't see Nunn keeping Fullmer's ugly style at bay for 15.

I see Nunn taking an early lead by outboxing Fullmer before Fullmer's rough style gradually wears on him late. Fullmer in a very close fight over 15.

 

13 of those losses came in the sixties. There is no point using those against Robinson, for obvious reasons. Robinson looked dazzling vs Olson in their third and fourth fights. He was still better than Nunn, and he'd have beaten Toney as well.

 

Again, I disagree and am moving on.

 

Since my vote might end up being the telling one i think Fullmer would sneak by Nunn over 15 rounds mostly because it's "15". I'd very likely favor Nunn over 10 or 12. I think Fullmers stamina, proven experience and ability over 15 let him grind away enough to be ahead at the tape.

Not much in it and i certainly wouldn't throw out any argument for Nunn. Nothing in it IMO.

 

If the fight takes place n the 70's as per opening post Nunn has to make 160lbs same day he fights, no way would he able to do that and fight 15 hard rounds which is whats required against Gene. He'd slow down significantly and Gene would maul him down the stretch to get the win.
