The whole point of this series is that it's "second tier." That's what it is. You boys wanting to put an elite welterweight in a second tier welterweight tournament and honestly believe that putting him in the second tier MW tournament is somehow unreasonable isn't stupid once, it's stupid twice.

And I find opening someone's thread just to tell them it's a waste of time uncalled for and petulant.

Right - yeah. He's second tier. That's the whole point.

Two shrill women interrupted the slickfest that was Michael Nunn-Luis Rodriguez causing a three minute delay to proceedings just after the bell to start round 3. The shrill women were shreiking unknown protests about the fight tonight, and even bared their shrivelled bosoms causing all right thinking men to look away from the ring, from which the hysterical, shrill women were soon ushered.

This allowed a devastating conclusion to a fight that seemed well matched over the first three as Michael Nunn used his superior size to impose himself relentlessly upon the smaller Rodriguez, who found himself running for cover as early as the eighth; by the eleventh, serious facial damage coursety of Nunn's trailing straight saw the doctor visit the ring. Rodriguez was allowed to continue but his corner did the right thing, pulling a hopelessly out-matched and fading Rodriguez from action after twelve, Nunn arguably having only dropped the first and third in winning a wide unanimous decision.

Well, your premise is a tad confusing ( for me anyway ) in 2 of your posts you refer to " much slickness " and the earlier post to, a meeting of " elite slickness " then you make much about " second tier " so its an oxymoron , are they elite or second tier ? that aside I enjoy your posts and you know your stuff. keep well mate.

No, it's not an oxymoron and i'm surprised you're confused.

Luis Rodriguez is a slick fighter. He will remain a slick fighter at welterweight, middleweight, or even heavyweight. Slickness is indelible. Alas, elite slickness does not an elite fighter make. You can be slick with a glass chin. You can be slick with nearly zero power. You can be elitely slick and a journeyman with absolutely no stamina.

Being slick doens't mean you will be an elite middleweight. A case in point: Luis Rodriguez, clearly an elite slickster and yet clealry not an elite middleiweght.

I hope this helps. But probably deep readings of my posts aren't really necessary: read the first post and total understanding of the concept will be yours.

Nunn is an elite fighter at middleweight.

Nunn looked elite when he knocked out Tate and Kalambay. Maybe Barkley if you're being generous. A lot of his MW performances were flat, dull fights against guys he should have beaten easily.

Even though Nunn knocked him out, Kalambay has a much deeper resume at the weight.

I’m not a mythical matchup guy, but I’ve got to say Rodriguez was an elite middle. The list of guys he beat at middle is insane. Better than modern “middle greats” like GGG or Canelo for example.

Yeah well we got guys who think these two aren't being elite enough and those that think they are too elite.

None of it really matters and it is all explained in the OP.

I'll try to stay away from the word "elite" in future in order to avoid triggering so many people
