Baseless. He couldn't deal with Foster's power, but then again, who could? Especially at 40 years old. He dealt with Torres' power absolutely fine, and the chin he showed at MW is absolutely enough to go with the idea that he'd take the power of a 'real LHW'.

His chin was neither proven nor unproven at the poundage. It's a difficult one. But there is a vast gulf between holding Torres and holding Foster. Foster is thee one maybe.

While Kov might not be a Foster, he had a lot more power than Torres. So no, dealing with Torres' power does not guarantee that he could deal with Kov's.

I'll leave you too ponder the error in that logic.

( Hint: Hagler's iron chin could deal with exceptional MW power, but he knew better than to take on Spinks or any other real LHW. )

BTW, did you not predict Kovalev to stop Tiger ???

I didn't say he couldn't take Kovalev's power. Kovalev is a massive puncher. The average 'real' light-heavy couldn't hit as hard as Kovalev. Most light-heavyweights didn't have the power to take Tiger out.

The error in my logic? Again, you're using one of the hardest punching light-heavies in your example. Hagler would've been stopped by Spinks, but he wouldn't have been stopped by Michalczewski. Perspective. A granite chinned middleweight will be able to take most light-heavyweights' power.

I didn't say Kovalev wouldn't stop Tiger, I said what I quoted was baseless.

But it is Kov that we're talking about here. And in both our opinions (it seems), Tiger gets stopped by Kov.

I'm having trouble discerning the WHY and WHAT of your argument here.

And I'm also using one of the most iron-chinned MWs to throw doubt on your statement that ...

With 18 hours after the weigh in, Tiger would still weigh 167 and Kovalev would weigh 185 , if not more.
The variable would be how well Kovalev's body reacted to the shorter time, half, basically, between weigh and fight.

Very good point and why it is so hard to put fighters from different era's against each other when the weigh rules were so different.

I will go to my grave calling Tiger the better fighter than Kovalev but the weight difference really does matter quite a bit.
It's why Tiger was no match for Foster and why Foster was no match for Frazier.

And to put it in perspective, Foster weighed 173 and often talked about how he tried to bulk up to weigh more.
Kovalev, come fight time, was probably 15 pounds or more bigger than Foster.
Tiger may be better, and he will land some punches, but better enough to overcome a 20 pound weight difference?

Kov for me. Theoretically he should be able to use his range and power to deter Tiger. Not sure if stops Tiger, but surely he can hurt him enough to cruise to win. Height, range and all that.

Richard Tiger won a total war in stopping Sergey Kovalev in the 12th of fifteen rounds. Dropped himself in the first, tenth and eleventh, Tiger put a weary Kovalev to the canvas three times in the twelfth before the referee called a halt. Out-working Kovalev in each of the rounds he wasn't seriously hurt in, Tiger's apparent vulnerability to Kovalev's power seemed to spell the fight's likely result, but Kovalev appeared to lack Tiger's powers of recovery. Kovalev emerged from each of the first two knockdowns more vulnerable than the last and it was clear his legs weren't under him as Tiger tried to beat him around the ring in the final minute of the twelfth.

The people who voted Tiger are just Kovalev haters. This tournie is already a joke.
