After Hopkins performance this past Saturday I began to think of the best of my "generation." I'm 25, so I'm quite young, but have been watching boxing with a keen interest since I was 15. With that, I'll only give three fighters, because I haven't thought about it that much. Please agree, or disagree with my picks, and state your own. 1. Roy Jones JR. Not the best resume I've ever seen, but he had the best natural talent that I believe I've ever seen. Went with what seemed years not dropping a round. 2. Bernard Hopkins. Also I have a problem with his resume, but he's more than making up for it now, and defending any title 20 times is something to applaud. Also, His "old-man" record now stands at 4-3, with some believing it could be closer to 6-1 and even 7-0. The fact that these fights are debatable for a 40 plus year old fighter is amazing. 3. Lennox Lewis. Did everything he could do with a weak batch of Heavyweights. Avenged his two losses in emphatic fashion, and had a nice string of title defenses. I know this is arguable, and I'm willing to listen, and potentially change, my picks based on the arguments to come. Thanks.
1.Roy Jones Jr 2.Bernard Hopkins 3.Floyd Mayweather Jr 4.Lennox Lewis 5.Oscar De La Hoya/Manny Pacquiao (I haven't included Whitaker, Chavez & Holyfield as I didn't really start watching boxing til around 1993, by which time they were slightly past their peaks, also have left out Toney because IMO his best years were 91-94)
