Let's try and compile a list of the definitive one punch knockouts over History. My knowledge is a bit limited, so I'll keep mine and nice and simple. These are the ones I would give a shout out to personal, feel free to suggest any of the more obscure knockouts you can think of. Having just bought myself a Michael Spinks set, I only just saw his devastating left hand that shut down Marvin Johnson. What a hell of a shot, and Johnson was no slouch. He was known to be a real tough, valiant fighter, competing in those breathtaking wars with Saad Muhammad. One picture perfect shot and it was over. I think this would deserve consideration as one of the more impressive one punch knockouts over top competition of recent times. How about Michael Nunn's one punch knockout over Sambu Kalamby? Nunn was known as somewhat of a pure boxer at the time, with Kalamby sporting a wonderful defense and toughness. Conventional wisdom was saying Kalamby was going to be by far Nunn's toughest ever opponent. Nunn ended up landing a beautiful left hook counter, catching Sambu cold, and scoring a breathtaking first round knockout. George Foreman over Michael Moorer? Rocky Marciano over Joe Walcott? What would you like to add?
That's on youtube. One of my favorites. Saad's form is absolutely perfect, and of course, Mwale goes to the floor like he's been shot. Wonderful!
I think the Spinks/Johnson KO is a great example of how the most effective KO punches aren't necessarily the most powerful punches, but the ones that that land in such a way that it causes the head to snap back and forth. That seems to be what truly "sparks" a guy.
My god! This wouldn't qualify though purely on that basis that the knockout holds no significance, and the quality of the fighters wasn't great. Still, unbelievable.
You know when a knockout makes you sick to the stomach that it was something special. Coming away from the Hatton knockout, I wasn't even a Hatton fan, but I was feeling ill. Devastating! The reason Boxers should not be taking their kids to fights in my opinion. Seeings daddy laying flat on his back unconscious. I'd be hysterical if that was my dad.
